suppose to pick up my prescription for Nystatin tonight and like I am everytime I start a new medication Im pretty worried about it. 2 pills 4 x day first week... 4 pills 4 x a week after. SEEMS LIKE A LOT!

Is there any reactions I should look out for or is this a pretty common drug used to prevent yeast. Dr. says I can go on minimal sugar once starting it... Fruits and such but still no large amounts so thats better.

Im really just afraid with all these drugs im going to make myself worse. I mean right now I can work a pretty stressful job and 5 days a week and do the things I like.

Yet, I still have anxiety, head pressure, fatigue and sometimes shortness of breath. All mixed with a kind of toxic feeling at times but I just work through it.

right now I am one week into Ceftin and addding the nystatin... Just looking for reactions to those who have used it before.

Thanks
Alex

I have tried it and it does nothing for me. This is that doc's standard protocol. I don't believe Nystatin is a big deal.

I am doing powdered nystatin in water. Tastes gross but definately does the job! Mine is 1 tbsp 1x a day. the bottle says 250 mg.

I hope this helps.

It caused me to herx with flu like symptoms, fatigue and really achy muscles. Some digestive issues.

I had to stop it, wait a few days and start back on it slowly - work up to the higher dose.

The herx hit me about day 3-4 of taking it.

All in all, it is an easy to take med.

I just got a prescription for this also but I have not taken it yet.

Is it fine to take with all other meds or should I take it apart from other meds?

I have been taking it since my first LLMD visit so I didn't notice any symptoms other than the

first herx I had just from adding more abx. I am supposed to take 3 Nystatin per day and

usually only get 2 in because I only eat 2 meals per day and don't want to take anything on an empty

stomach unless it is prescribed that way!

I don't think you will have a problem with this!

I take Nystatin every day, liquid form, no yeast in 14 months. [Big Grin]

It works and I've never had any side effects from it, either.

Nystatin does not go into the bloodstream. Stays in the gut. Does not affect the liver. The only symptoms you will have would be from yeast die-off.

So the more you adhere to a clean diet, the fewer symptoms you will have while taking it.

Some LLMD's think it may help prevent biofilm. I take it even if I have to give meds a rest for fever, etc.

I have no problems with it. It's to keep the yeast killed off. I just take 4 tabs a day per my Dr. I haven't had yeast problems yet. As long as I take antibiotics any time in my life I should take nystatin too.

I know of a few who had yeast die off and got diarhea when they went to 4 pills the first day !

if that happens back off to two for a few days and the d should go away !

each of us is different so you may do 4 pills the first day and have no problems at all !

Take it with your antibiotics with food. Nystatin is notoriously safe. I've had no problem/no ill effects with it.

Remember that Nystatin is not even absorbed into the blood. It stays in your GI system. The dose you have there looks normal depending on the strength of it. You can get some die-off, which is normal.

Make sure to stay off Florastor (s.boulardii) while on Nystatin or Diflucan as it will just kill it off. [Smile] You can take regular probiotics at the same time.

You should be on the low carb no sugar diet during Lyme treatment regardless.

Ok, now I am confused (whats new)...I have been on abx (CLindamycin) and just changed to another one yesterday (Duricef)..per my LLMD instructions (severe infection)

I started taking Florastor (s.boulardii) and ProbioMax Df. a couple of days ago...as I didnt want to get yeast..but I think it's too late I am feeling like I might be having the beginnings of yeast infection.

So, I was going to start taking the Nystatin tablets (1 tablet x2 day) my LLMD had prescribed eariler but now I am confused...should I not take it with the probotics/

If not, what can I do???

Thanks (:

You SHOULD take your nystatin, your probiotics and your antibiotic. My son started both probiotics and nystatin at the same time and has continued for the 4 months he has been on antibiotics (orals at first and now IV's for 9 weeks so far.) You can take the meds together. It's fine and it will prevent yeast infection that comes from being on the antibiotics. Take your nystatin.

Yes, take the Nystatin and abx at the same time if you need to. Take the probiotics 2 hrs away from the abx.

The problem comes if you are taking Florastor. It will kill out the Nystatin.

And FOR SURE, watch what you eat!! No white foods or sugar. (or you will pay)

Im sorry lymetoo, Im still confused..I understand you saying the florastor will kill out the nystatin but are you saying you can still take it..

just 2 hrs apart or should I just hold off on it while taking the nystatin.

I just hate to spend the money on the both of them if its just gonna cancel the nystatin out.

Thanks (:

I started my Nystatin on day 1 of treatment. I take 2 pills 2x / day with my Abx. I also take Grapefruit Seed Extract (250 mg 2x / day) and one Oil of Oregano capsule 2x / day.

No yeast for me and zero issues!

Will Nystatin Tablets kill yeast in the throat?

Liquid did not complete the job, cannot take Diflucan.

No the tablets will not work to kill yeast in the throat. You will need a longer course of liquid Nystatin or Diflucan or Sporanox or Mycelex lozenges or Vfend. You have options if the Nystatin doesn't work.

edited to add: those are all RX meds so you will have to contact your doctor if you are still having yeast problems.

Never had a problem with that one. Diflucan is the one that can cause herx's with me. Even going on the diet causes one for me.

Been taking Nystatin for a couple of years, I think. It's pretty innocuous. You have to take it while taking abx. Prevents yeast in the gut. I usually react to everything, but didn't to the Nystatin.

Been on it, 4pills / day, since starting treatment on May 10, 10. No issues, no yeast. It is a safe, long term drug to use.

I've even been able to "cheat" on my diet without issues.

I'm VERY confused about this issue!

I recently started Nystatin to treat my yeast problem. My LLND wants me to continue taking Florastor (been taking daily for over a year), and said there's no interaction if taken a few hrs apart.

However LLMD says can't take Florastor with any antifungalss, including Nystatin. However LLMD also continues to deny I have any yeast problems - despite my significant GI issues that started 8 months ago and have continued to worsen - and so does not want me on any antifungals.

I'm definitely sticking with the Nystatin, but still have concerns about interactions with Florastor. The ND said that continuing on Florastor is critical for treating my c. difficile.

Yeah lots of fun stuff going on in my GI tract! [Roll Eyes]
