Hi everyone- this is the second night this week I have been awoken in the middle of the night with pain on the left side of my face and ear.

The pain feels like burning pain. There is no facial drooping, though it almost feels like there should be. It is bad enough to wake me up.

What the heck? Part of a herx? Side effect from Ceftin? Unrelated to lyme? I have never had this before...

Sorry that no one more qualified has answered your post yet!

From all that I've heard and experienced thus far with Lyme, I would say either Lyme or herx from meds!

Wow... I don't know if this is the same thing, but your topic caught my attention because I've had something similar on and off for a few months now.

At the beginning of this symptom, I would wake up in the middle of the night with extreme sharp left ear pain. It felt as though I had an ear infection -- the pain felt as though it were coming from inside my ear.

However, I also noticed it happened more when I was tense or stressed about something. So, when it happened, my husband or I began massaging the tiny muscles around the outside (usually back and top) of my ear. It was hard to find the right ones, but when I did, I could feel it. This helped.

Since then, I haven't had that same experience of waking up with the pain very much, but I occasionally feel during the day, and in my other ear as well. Not as strong, but still there. Sometimes I really do wonder if I have an ear infection, but it comes and goes, so I don't think that's it.

Sometimes it feels as though my ear has had a change in pressure and I can't get it to "pop", and so the build up of pressure is hurting. This is all from just continuing my usual location at home.

I haven't had the face pain with it, so it may be that what I'm experiencing is very different from what you are talking about. But, I just thought I'd share in case there were connections.

I have, off and on, numbness on left side of face which usually is accompanied by ear pain.

I definitely notice it in times of stress, but not always.

I also get external "burning" of ears and internal ear pain on both ears.

I think this is Lyme? But I do not for sure.

Yea I have the pain on the left side of my face and ear. I also have mild pain in my right ear... but thats internal. The other pain feels both external and internal.

Sounds similar to what you guys are talking about. I wonder what this is? Nerve related I guess?

Ear pain was my first symptom that made me really take notice that something was really wrong with me. It is not an ear infection...I have seen multiple ENTs and nothing is wrong with the ear itself. I also get the clogged/pressure feeling often and it drives me crazy!!! It is only my left ear. can't figure out how to get it to stop. Just started IV treatment, so I'm praying this will cure it??!

I've had that before too. Turned out I have TMJ. I had a TMJ specialist fit me for a night guard and am doing better.
