You might need something like HCTZ to pull the excess water out. Try elevating your legs as you sleep.

It was one of my primary symptoms, and mainly in my left ankle. It used to be 1/2 inch larger than my right. I put my leg up whenever I can.
Are you on fibrolytic enzymes like bromelain, neprinol or lumbrokinase? Mine was partly due to thick blood, which caused tightness and stiffness in my calves.
Also, anti-parasitic treatment has been beneficial.

May not be due to Lyme. Congestive Heart Failure usually presents as pooling in the extremities as your heart isn't getting all the venous return against gravity.
Not saying it is that but that is common at a certain age. Check with a decent doc.

Do your ankles resemble the ones on this link?

Check out that link that 17hens posted. I had swelling like that when Bartonella was flaring out of control (this was about a month ago). I went to my local doctor (also an ND), she prescribed an Asparagus supplement 1,000mg twice daily.
I had gained 10-15 lbs of fluid in just a few days. It was scary. The asparagus worked as a diuretic. It helped some. What really helped was Levaquin. My symptoms were much better a couple days after I started it. No more swelling!
I would encourage you to f/u with your local MD or LLMD to rule out other causes of edema also. My doctor ran all kinds of bloodwork and did a thorough evaluation before she came to the conclusion that the edema was from my infection. She told me to stick with my LLMD's treatments and try the Asparagus supplement for symptomatic relief.

This sounds like your lymphatic system. My naturopathic doc sent me to a guy that specializes in abdominal lymphathic drain. My feet and ankles were like yours in the beginning were painful and felt really tight. That main lymphatic duct is in your left groin, my entire left leg/foot were full of fluid. And my stomach, oh my gosh, I felt like I lost 7 pounds that first visit. This is the best money I've spent on ANY lyme/coinfection treatment, but go to someone who is very experienced and make sure they do ABDOMINAL lymphatic drain. It's not the most pleasurable massage, but you'll feel like a different person afterward!

thank you all for responses, nspiker, no Im not taking any of those treatments you mentioned I did however just complete a regimen of Humaworm [30 day supply]
17hens & sammy, yes in actual fact my foot looks very like those pictures especially the last 4 or 5 which are marked in black lines there are no LLD here so its all trial and error, if I can get my hands on Asparagus supplements I will gladly take them

I have this in my hands and feet. It seems to be inflammation related to diet and herxing in my case. It's been going on for about 2 years but I've been sick a lot longer.
I have found that an anti-inflammatory diet, eliminating gluten and dairy, helped somewhat. Eliminating nightshade vegetables (tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, potatoes) helped more.

echorox,
Are the sides of your feet, like in the arch area, looking bruised sometimes? Black and bluish looking?
And the ankle swelling comes to a little ledge, like in the pictures?
I have all this and I believe it's caused by bartonella. And I'm hoping and praying that treatment makes it go away!
Btw, how did you get your name?

17hens, thanks for that link! I looked at the pictures and read all the captions! Interesting!
Just the last few weeks I've had swelling in my hands, feet and now eyelids!
Went to my LLMD today and he said it was a herx/flare. That it's part of a die off... and asked me to stop my abx for 5days to get it leveled off.
When I woke up on Monday Am with my eyelids so swollen, I about freaked out. Thought my kidneys or heart were going down for the count.
He did take blood and urine samples today but stated with bart, this would happen if killing to quickly.
Sort of glad to see others have had this! whew... we're all so abnormal.. its nice to have company in this craziness!

After 4 weeks of Rifampin and Zith, which have reduced my bart symptoms more than anything else so far, I can see an ankle bone!!!
The swelling and bruised look is slowly but surely going away!

I have had this problem, too. My doc sent me to a lymphedema specialist who showed my husband how to wrap my feet and legs in bandages at night. Then I prop my feet up on an exercise ball while I watch TV. I keep the bandages on all night.
The therapist also recommended pressure stockings, but I have trouble keeping them pulled up.
My doc is now recommending that I go to a hospital that has help with lymphedema. We'll see what I learn. Then I can post it.
This swelling is most uncomfortable and I can see why it concerns you. I think it is directly linked to the pain in my legs. And it does get worse if I am on my feet for too long.

If it is bart related it is not edema so it will not be reduced from diuretics. In fact, it does not leave a dent when you press it the way that edema does.
I have it on the side of my lower calf and sometimes it hurts. It reduces in size as my treatment progresses.

My wife has had swollen ankles ever since infection. It turned out to be Bart. Once I treated for that, the ankles went back to normal, in a couple of days, although the infection is not totally gone.
First time in five years she has had normal ankles. This was her only symptom of Bart.

With the onset of arthritic symptoms, diagnosed as Reactive Arthritis, my ankle/s swelled.
Last summer I knew what it was to have "kankles". After months of babesia treatment, my ankles are mostly back to normal.

Oh, I almost choked on my water when I read "kankles"!! That is such a funny word!
My daughter had a substitute teacher last year that the kids nicknamed Kankles. I told her that wasn't a nice thing to call someone, but had to turn around so she wouldn't see me laughing.
Thanks for the , nspiker!
(and for those of you who think I'm mean, I have my very own kankles, so there! The word just makes me laugh - can't help it!)

I did not know that about Bart. Thanks for the tip. I will ask my doctor to test for that before I get too commited to the lymphedema clinic.

At least I wasn't wearing those big black heavy shoes, and support stockings, to go along with the kankles....
