My 6 year old son has been making steady improvements since we started an herbal protocol 6 months ago. His remaining symptoms have been mostly psych/behavioral, which have been improving.
Two weeks ago I added Zhang's allicin and he took it for about 6 days. We stopped b/c it seemed to be hurting his stomach. The first few days on it he was very good (maybe even better than prior to taking it) but by the fourth day his behavior deteriorated so that he was talking back and shouting and spitting at times, like he used to do months ago.
And I also noticed a strange itchy rash on him that I originally thought were bug bites. It's small red dots that look like small mosquito bites appearing in a small area about 2-3 inches in diameter in several areas of his body: there is a patch on his very low back and groin and upper thigh area. There are about 8 to 15 dots in an area. He also has sores inside his mouth which I think must be from the allicin - I recall getting that when I started allicin one time.
I am trying to figure out if this rash could be a sign that the allicin was causing a herx? Has anyone experienced a rash like this?
I am starting to wonder if the allicin stirred up an infection that has been dormant or less obvious. I specifically wonder about bartonella. I know he has bartonella but it has been improving, based on what we have seen with symptoms and with the EDS testing. He did mention his foot hurt a couple of times during the past two weeks.
The other possibility is that he was somehow reinfected but we have not seen any tick bites and we spray our yard so that is probably unlikely unless a mosquito could have done it.
Thanks for any thoughts about this.

Allicin is an antibacterial but also an anti-fungal. Rashes, particularly itchy ones, may be from yeast die-off.
It could also be bart, but I haven't had itchy rashes from that.

I still get some of these spots (rash) I am on antiparasitical herbs. The allicin can definitely stir up bacteria, yeast, and parasites that have been dormant.
The skin is the largest organ and a way for infections to leave the body. For myself, I always view it like a herx. Going by my own reactions and the rashes that appear, it is usually because I am herxing.
Is your son eating any food with the allicin? I am sure it can be hard on the stomach. It is always so heartwrenching when a child has to go through this.

Thanks so much for your comments. Good point about the yeast - didn't think of that.
His EDS testing has shown no more parasites but he does have high candida and a little bart and lyme left. And still has a lot of babesia. We go back to the pracitioner next week - I'm also going to see if there are any allergy issues with the garlic. I will also see what the garlic was hitting - that might tell us what caused the rash and why his behavior has deteriorated.
Thanks.

I had something similar for months. It was horribly itchy and at times weepy. It drove me crazy. I actually changed LLMD's for this very reason. The one I was seeing couldn't figure out what it was. Was not yeast.
The great Dr. B. took one look and said Bartonella. I took several months of both Levaquin and Rifampin and recovered. Hope your little one feels better soon.
