Hi. My wife and I are farmer's and always have ticks on us.

My wife is over 18 and has a rash where she was bitten by ticks. It is not a classic bull's eye though.

We have bags full of ticks we have pulled off of us. We try to get them off before 24 hours.

Anyways, we are in Georgia and would greatly appreciate a good Lyme Specialist for a clinical diagnosis. Thank you!

Hi Steve:

The Eerythema migrans rash does not have to be a bulls eye and not all with lyme present with one.

If she has an EM she does have lyme, even by CDC standards so a local MD will prescribe doxycycline. Of course the standard dose is not enough (what counts is the strength and duration in the blood stream).

Taking off b/4 24 hours is a good practice BUT is not infallible (ignore the IDSA saying 36 hours, this is based upon one the tick being taken off properly and two it ignores one rodent in thier study that did become infected under 24 hours so you have a 7% chance of becoming infected).

I suggest you call your local family MD or internest and bring your wife immediately so they see the EM rash. Then she needs to take 30 days of doxy.

While on doxy, no sun (none, gloves on hands, etc. or the chemical burn will be worse than a 3rd degree), probiotic's to replace good bacteria.

PM me with questions.

I suggest that you consider what tick repellents you could use to protect yourselves.

I like essential oils myself, like Orange Guard, found in healthfood stores and hardware stores. It's from oranges, and is how oranges fend off bugs.

Put a little in a spray bottle, fill with water and spray on clothing, immediate environment and can also be lightly misted on pet fur besides what they get from the vet and pet store.

There's also other essential oils at www.homs.com and www.cedarcidestore.com, etc.
