My cousin who lives in Pinehurst, NC has what appears to be a tick illness.,,was on Cape Cod a few weeks ago. Doc in the box gave him two weeks of Doxy...will get him more for sure!
Does anyone know what co-infections might be more common on the Cape? Also, any LLD's in the Pinehurst area?!
Thank you!
Linda

Lyme disease is endemic on Cape Cod, from what I've read. I'm not sure which co-infections are specific to it.
One dose of antibiotics is not enough, but that is what non LLMDs prescribe based on flawed guidelines. Long-term antibiotics is the treatment for a Lyme patient.
Your cousin needs to be evaluated and treated by a Lyme-literate doctor (LLMD). Non LLMDs have no clue about this horrible disease or its complex treatment!
Unfortunately, LLMDs are afar and few between. He needs to go where they are.
Also, most LLMDs do not take insurance due to the politics surrounding this disease. Read poster TF's explanation about this:

I live in Southern Pines, NC. Would like to know if there are any LLMD in Moore County. I was a patient of Dr. J for a few years before he moved to D.C. Since then, I haven't had any luck getting any docs that I've seen to help me with my lyme disease (got it in 2000 on Long Island). Thanks for any advice. FC

You should write a new post instead of adding on to an existing one. That way, more people will see it and respond, because most don't re-read old posts.

A LLMD is one who has treated Lyme disease and the co-infections which come with it for many years and has gotten patients well. A good one will follow Dr. B's Guidelines, the "gold standard" for Lyme treatment.
