Welcome to Lymenet! PM sent for MA.

Lyme-literate doctors (LLMDs) are far and few between, unfortunately. You need to go where they are.

Also, most LLMDs do not accept insurance due to the politics surrounding this horrible disease. Read poster TF's explanation, "Why Lyme Doctors Don't Take Insurance":

http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi/topic/2/15615?#000005

When calling for an appointment, ask if they have any cancellations or a waiting list. Patients have been able to get in sooner by doing this.

Check the online state Lyme groups at:
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/massachusettslyme

Maybe they can help.

Some more resources for you (including Support Groups info):
www.lyme-aware.org/massachusetts.html

The top LLMD, Dr. H, has written a new book entitled, "Why Can't I Get Better?". It is an excellent source of information.

Also read "Cure Unknown" by Pamela Weintraub. Check your local library or buy it used on Amazon.

Please understand that just because a doctor is a member of ILADS does not necessarily mean he/she is a good one and knows how to treat Lyme and co-infections properly.

Here is a very informative post, "Is Being a Member of ILADS Enough?", which you might want to read:

http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi/topic/2/24527?#000000

The best way to find a competent LLMD is through personal referrals or state Lyme Support Groups.

I mention ILADS because I thought the referrals they gave me for MA were a decent selection.

Hoping- you had a good list of practitioners too. I think the guy in MA that you listed wasn't taking any new patients when I called in May though so that leaves only one other option on your list for someone in MA. Nancy says that there are no good LLMDs in MA just one person in CT. I found it helpful to seek out Dr.'s names from several sources.

I still very much appreciated hearing your opinions though.

Sam - You can always write a new post in "Seeking a Doctor" and ask for feedback on a certain doctor. Just title it "Need Feedback on Dr. _ (use initial of last name only) in _" (state name only, no cities/towns, per Lymenet rules).

People will pm you with more information, so you can make an educated decision about the doctor you want to treat you and whether or not he/she is Lyme-literate, as well as an experienced good one.

I try to help because I found help for my dear son here on Lymenet years ago from others who gave good advice to me and shared information.
