Hello, I am the mom of a 17 year old male who is a senior in High School. I am looking for a physician in RI, MA or CT who will treat him. He has had many lab and diagnostic tests which have all been normal except for a positive IgG and a positive IgM on the western blot.

He has never been treated for Lyme disease. He never had a bulls eye rash. He has had progressive cognitive decline over the past 18 months. Neuropsych testing shows he gone from normal IQ to moderate/severe intellectual disability over the past 18 months. He presents like he has Alzheimer's disease. The only physical symptom he has is fatigue. He shows no evidence of pain, arthritis or headache.

Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

Hi RI Mom:

I will send you a list of CT LLMD's via PM. Welcome to this site where many can help but it can be over whelming.

Please understand there is a controversy within the medical profession on diagnosing and treating tick borne diseases. You don't need to agree but just understand it is what it is.

Most if not all here have learned about the controversy the hard way and we fall in the camp that Lyme and Tick Borne diseases can be persistent and not easily eridacated with a short course of medications.

Good luck and I hope your son is well soon.

Welcome to Lymenet! PM sent for CT.

Your dear son needs to be evaluated and treated by a Lyme-literate doctor (LLMD). Non LLMDs have no clue about this horrible disease and its complex treatment!

Unfortunately, LLMDs are far and few between. You need to go where they are.

Also, most LLMDs do not accept insurance due to the politics surrounding this horrible disease. Read poster TF's explanation, "Why Lyme Doctors Don't Take Insurance":

http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi/topic/2/15615?#000005

When calling for an appointment, ask if they have any cancellations or a waiting list. Patients have been able to get in sooner by doing this.

Check the online state Lyme groups at:
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/RhodeIslandLyme/info

https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/ConnecticutLyme/info

Maybe they can help.

Some more resources for you (including Support Groups info):
www.lyme-aware.org/rhode-island.html
www.lyme-aware.org/connecticut.html

The top LLMD, Dr. H, has written a new book entitled, "Why Can't I Get Better?". It is an excellent source of information.

Also read "Cure Unknown" by Pamela Weintraub. Check your local library or buy it used on Amazon.
