Looking for a LLMD for my 9 year old son. He presented with fever, ear ache and swollen lymph nodes on the back right of his head/right side of neck at the end of August 2015. Lymph nodes took several months to resolve. All bloodwork was normal at the time.

Throughout the Fall/Winter, he had episodes of a sore/stiff neck, sore shoulders and then at the end of February presented with a very swollen, sore, stiff right elbow and low grade fever. Lyme titer was then positive, JRA work up was negative. Treated with 100mg 2x per day of doxy for 28 days. Symptoms seemed to resolve.

Shortly after treatment concluded, discovered severe vision loss in right eye at routine eye exam. Specialist initially believed cause of vision loss to be inactive, but today we found out there is activity. I'm feeling it's all connected.

Thank you in advance for your advice!

Welcome to Lymenet! PM sent for PA & MD.

Your dear son needs to be evaluated and treated by a Lyme-literate doctor (LLMD). Non LLMDs have no clue about this horrible disease or its complex treatment!

They are far and few between, unfortunately. You need to go where they are.

Also most LLMDs do not accept insurance due to the politics surrounding this horrible disease. Read poster TF's explanation, "Why Lyme Doctors Don't Take Insurance":

http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=2;t=025539;p=0

When calling for an appointment, ask if they have any cancellations or a waiting list. Patients have been able to get in sooner to see a LLMD by doing this.

Check the online state Lyme groups at:
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/PennsylvaniaLyme/info

Maybe they can help.

Some more resources for you (including Support Groups info):

*NOTE: There is a Lyme-literate Ophthalmologist in PA. Contact lymepa.org to find out more info.

The top LLMD, Dr. H, has written a new book entitled, "Why Can't I Get Better?". It is an excellent source of information.

Read "Cure Unknown" by Pamela Weintraub. Get it at your local library or buy it used on Amazon.
