Hi there,

I am looking for a knowledgeable Lyme doctor in South-western Maine or South-eastern New Hampshire.

This is for a close friend, age 51, who has been dealing with Lyme for about 2 years, and was most recently diagnosed with Lyme Carditis.

So far, treatment - including traditional antibiotic and homeopathic treatment - has been unsuccessful at minimizing/eradicating symptoms.

Seeking a "new" doctor who may have more insight and effective treatment protocols that can be explored.

My heart goes out to anyone who has to suffer through this illness, and the difficulty getting proper treatment and support...

THANK YOU for any suggestions you can offer.

Mary

Welcome to Lymenet! PM sent for ME & NH.

Your friend needs to be evaluated and treated by a Lyme-literate doctor (LLMD). Non LLMDs have no clue about this horrible disease or its complex treatment!

A LLMD is one who has treated Lyme disease and the co-infections which come with it for many years and has gotten patients well. A good one will follow Dr. B's Guidelines, the "gold standard" for Lyme treatment.

Here is a link for them:

Unfortunately, LLMDs are far and few between. Your friend needs to go where they are.

Also, most LLMDs do not accept insurance due to the politics surrounding this horrible disease. Read poster TF's explanation, "Why Lyme Doctors Don't Take Insurance":

When calling for an appointment, have your friend ask if they have any cancellations or a waiting list. Patients have been able to get in to sooner by doing this.

Check the online state Lyme groups at:

https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/MaineLyme/info

https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/NewHampshireLyme/info

Maybe they can help.

Some more resources (including Support Groups info):

The top LLMD, Dr. H, has written a new book entitled, "Why Can't I Get Better?". It is an excellent source of information.

Also have your friend read "Cure Unknown" by Pamela Weintraub. Check the local library or buy it used on Amazon.

Many, many thanks for the information!

I am grateful that information can be shared so easily these days - especially when dealing with Lyme.

Wishing you good health and happiness.

Mary
