looking for Lyme literate MD for my 44 yrs old sister who also has complications from diabetes including cognitive problems but last two years got worse with no explanation.
few months ago she had positive blood and spinal fluid for Lyme. Her doctors don't know what to do with the diagnosis.
Please also recommend how to go about making the appointment- do i mention its for Lyme or just make the appointment for a check up visit?
I had one a friend recommended but i was told to call Igenix to get another physician since they don't t take medicade (my sister is disabled from all the complications)- i will pay out of pocket if i have to.
Thank you and appreciate the effort to help the helpless

To get someone good, I recommend that folks in NJ travel to the Maryland/D.C. area. The doc I recommend can see her in a few days.
He doesn't take insurance, and it is expensive to see a good lyme doctor.
After the first in-person appointment, she can do Skype or telephone appointments. So, she won't have to travel to the D.C. area that often. Maybe every 3 to 6 months.
Let me know if you want the name.
The doc I recommend is a lyme specialist, meaning that his practice focuses on lyme and nearly every patient is there for lyme treatment. That is what your sister needs--someone with lots of expertise.
The doc is the key to getting rid of this disease. Can't emphasize that enough.
If sis has lyme in her spinal fluid, she will likely need to go on IV medication. Perhaps Medicaid will pay for that. You will probably have to end up looking into that since that is likely what the doc will order. It is costly.

Your sister needs to be evaluated and treated by a Lyme-literate doctor (LLMD). Non LLMDs have no clue about this horrible disease or its complex treatment!
A LLMD is one who has treated Lyme disease and the co-infections which come with it for many years and has gotten patients well. A good one will follow Dr. B's Guidelines, the "gold standard" for Lyme treatment.
Unfortunately, LLMDs are far and few between. She needs to go where they are.
Also most LLMDs do not accept insurance due to the politics surrounding this horrible disease. Read poster TF's explanation, "Why Lyme Doctors Don't Take Insurance":
