Recently diagnosed with Lyme disease at 29. More than likely have had it for 10 years based on how long symptoms have been occurring.

Trying to find a good Dr. To visit near Portland, OR.

Thanks!

Welcome. Hope you find what you need here but sorry that it comes to this. As you may have determined by now, lyme is very "controversial" (to say the least) among MDs in Oregon and patient treatment suffers tremendously.

It's best not to even whisper "lyme" itself but even more so the term "chronic lyme" in any MD's office in Oregon.

There are, however, some ILADS educated lyme literate naturopathic doctors in Portland. You'll do best to contact the Portland support group for detail on how best to proceed.

Good luck.

Some background that is vital to your understanding the lay of the land:

http://lyme.kaiserpapers.org/oregon.html

Lyme Disease in Oregon

The Kaiser Papers – not by or from Kaiser Insurance but about how lyme inquiries are not taken seriously, or adequately.

Also gives background regarding lack of lyme assessment / treatment in general, regardless of one’s insurance coverage.

What is a LLMD? LL ND? What is ILADS?

WHY you need an ILADS "educated" or "minded" Lyme Literate doctor (whether MD or ND, or both) - starting with assessment / evaluation for lyme, OTHER tick-borne diseases, and other chronic stealth infections - and all that goes along for the ride.

Medical "models" explained here, as to differences in the ISDA & ILADS models of assessment & treatment - and exactly why it is so very important to know the differences.

Welcome to Lymenet! PM sent for WA.

You need to be evaluated and treated by a Lyme-literate doctor (LLMD). Non LLMDs have no clue about this horrible disease or its complex treatment!

Unfortunately, LLMDs are far and few between. You need to go where they are. None in OR.

Also, most LLMDs do not take insurance due to the politics surrounding this disease. Read poster TF's explanation about this:

"Why Lyme Doctors Don't Take Insurance"
http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=2;t=025539;p=0

When calling for an appointment, ask if they have any cancellations or a waiting list. Patients have been able to get in sooner by doing this.

Check the online state Lyme groups at:

https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/OregonLyme/info

https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/WashingtonLyme/info

Maybe they can help.

The top LLMD, Dr. H, has written a new book entitled, "Why Can't I Get Better?". It is an excellent source of information.

Also read "Cure Unknown" by Pamela Weintraub. Check your local library or buy it used on Amazon.
