A few months ago I came back to LymeNet to try and find the right type of doctor to help my complex case.
I'm now looking for an LLMD that, at least to some extent, accepts insurance.
The doctor is for a member of my immediate family who does not have the monetary means to pay for an LLMD who does not accept any form of insurance.
We are located in the Hampton Roads, VA area (also known as Tidewater) and hoping to find a doctor who is not more than a 3-4 hours away as well as capable of doing phone consultations.
If there is a doctor you know of who fits this description, I would greatly appreciate your help and would be willing know of doctors along the general east coast if you don't know of any LLMDs within 3-4 hours of the Norfolk, VA area.
NDs and alternative doctors you would recommend are also someone we're willing to consider.
Thank you much in advance.

Unfortunately, most LLMDs do not take insurance. Good LLMDs will spend at least an hour on your first visit due to the complexity of Lyme and co-infections. Insurance companies generally don't pay for long visits.
Also, most LLMDs are weary of insurance companies bc many insurance companies have brought charges against LLMDs to the medical board.
I do hope that someone else knows of a doc that takes insurance near you, and I wish you happiness and help.

You should write a new post instead of adding on to an existing one. That way, more people will see it and respond, because most don't re-read old posts.
You need to be evaluated and treated by a Lyme-literate doctor (LLMD). Non LLMDs have no clue about this horrible disease or its complex treatment!
A LLMD is one who has treated Lyme disease and the co-infections which come with it for many years and has gotten patients well. A good one will follow Dr. B's Guidelines, the "gold standard" for Lyme treatment.
Unfortunately, LLMDs are far and few between. You need to go where they are.
Also most LLMDs do not accept insurance due to the politics surrounding this horrible disease. Read poster TF's explanation, "Why Lyme Doctors Don't Take Insurance":

I'm well aware of all of this but I do appreciate your concern and am only going this route because it's the only option for a close family member.

Call to find out about all of the information, because it may not be up-to-date.
Responded, thank you so much.
