Looking for Drs. in WV, PA, MD & Northern VA
I and my son (15yrs) tested positive through IGENX. I'm also interested in Drs. that treat kids under 10 years.

Hi, Robert, and welcome to LymeNet! We will help you here all we can.
I have been helping lyme patients find good doctors for at least 11 years. I have over 5,000 messages from lyme patients. Many of them talk about their doctors, often complaining about them and looking for someone better. So, this is how I have amassed information on the east coast doctors--who is good and who isn't.
I keep up with who in our area is retiring, who has "gone bad" (stopped diagnosing or treating lyme properly), who is no longer taking new patients, etc. When I recommend a doctor to someone, it is the best lyme doctor currently available. So, that is the name I have sent you by private message.
I had undiagnosed lyme disease (and babesiosis and bartonella) for at least 10 years before a doctor thought to test me for lyme. I suffered with undiagnosed lyme disease for 10 LONG years going from doctor to doctor. Still, I got rid of it by finally going to a doctor who followed the Burrascano protocol. It has been over 10 years now since I completed my lyme treatment! Praise God! I have the same life I had before lyme disease.
I know most of the big name lyme doctors on the east coast and all the lyme doctors in Md, southcentral Pa, D.C. and northern Va. This is what I learned in my over 13 years of being in the lyme world: many doctors treat lyme disease, but only a very few know enough to get rid of it for a person. Your job is to find one of those few. I know a few of them.
The doc is the key! Can't stress that enough. You pay for expertise. This is an extremely difficult to cure disease, or rather group of diseases.
There are very few lyme docs who treat children under 10 years of age and just one or two who are really good. So, let me know if this child is very ill and I will give you some ideas for getting good treatment for a little one.

I sent you a message with a LLMD recommendation-the same doc "TF" recommended to me and I have made nice progress with him. Please make sure your private messaging is enabled.

Thank you TF. My soon to be 8 year old isn't very ill and it might be just the Lyme me that is seeing changes in him but I would like the info. so that I can prepare.

TF - Also if you have the other Drs. to suggest that are closer to Northern WV would be great. Although Dr. J is my preferred right now.
Thank you

There is nobody closer to your area. Lyme docs are few and far between.
I will send you some names for children.

What town are you in? Are you near Ohio? If so, you can contact the Ohio Lyme Support Groups. See "Support Groups" on the left side of the page.
There is nobody good in the Pittsburgh area as far as I can tell. Many of them come to the doc I recommended to you.
Just know that the docs further to the east see a lot more lyme than those in western Pa. for example. And, the further west you go, the less lyme there is. So, the east coast doctors generally develop more expertise than those further toward the middle of the country.

TF - I'm about an hour and a half drive to the Ohio border. Thanks for the suggestion.

Welcome to Lymenet! PM sent for PA, MD, VA & OH
You both need to be evaluated and treated by a Lyme-literate doctor (LLMD). Non LLMDs have no clue about this horrible disease or its complex treatment!
A LLMD is one who has treated Lyme disease and the co-infections which come with it for many years and has gotten patients well. A good one will follow Dr. B's Guidelines, the "gold standard" for Lyme treatment.
Unfortunately, LLMDs are far and few between. You need to go where they are. I don't know of any in WV.
Also most LLMDs do not accept insurance due to the politics surrounding this horrible disease. Read poster TF's explanation, "Why Lyme Doctors Don't Take Insurance":
