The child needs to be evaluated and treated by a Lyme-literate doctor (LLMD). Non LLMDs have no clue about this horrible disease or its complex treatment!
A LLMD is one who has treated Lyme disease and the co-infections which come with it for many years and has gotten patients well. A good one will follow Dr. B's Guidelines, the "gold standard" for Lyme treatment.
Unfortunately, LLMDs are far and few between. The child needs to go where they are.
Also most LLMDs do not accept insurance due to the politics surrounding this horrible disease. Read poster TF's explanation, "Why Lyme Doctors Don't Take Insurance":

If I am correct, you are in the very southern part of Va. Would you be willing to travel to the Washington, D.C. area for a good lyme specialist?
There are very few good lyme docs and only a handful or less of good pediatric lyme doctors. I don't believe there are any in your area at all.
You may be able to get your child in with the one I recommend. Let me know if you are willing to travel here.
You only have to see the doc in person every 3 months. Otherwise, you can do telephone appointments monthly. So, it is not that much traveling at all. You can do Skype appointments so the doc can see the patient that way.
