My 11 year old son was just diagnosed with Lyme today but pediatrician isn't aggressive and says Chronic Lyme is a myth, so I need someone knowledgable.

**edited to add the state*

Good for you for finding us. You won't get anywhere until you get him to a doc who specializes in treating lyme disease.

All of our doctors have been miseducated by the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) to believe that lyme is rare and easily cured. But, the truth is that it is more than an epidemic and it is extremely difficult to cure if not caught early.

A Boston TV station did a show on the lyme disease controversy a few years ago. Here is the Boston Chronicle video on YouTube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3_JwDPqGAg

I suggest you watch this video a few times. It explains the lyme disease controversy and the role the IDSA plays in making it difficult for a person to get good lyme treatment.

I suggest you change the title of your post to add New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

Not everybody knows where Nashua is. And, many have lists of docs just for certain states, so they look for the state in the title of the post.

There are very few lyme doctors and even fewer pediatric lyme doctors--very few of those. So, be prepared to travel beyond Mass and NH if necessary to get to someone good.

Until others come along, contact the lyme support groups near you--see Support Groups on the left side of the page. Contact those near you and ask for who is good and where they are taking their children.

In addition, I suggest you read the Burrascano Lyme Treatment Guidelines found here:

http://www.lymenet.org/BurrGuide200810.pdf

This document is not an easy read because it was written to doctors, but it will give you your education on this disease which is really many diseases.

The more you study it, the more you will understand of what the lyme specialist is saying, and the better able you will be to judge whether your child is getting good treatment or not. An educated patient/parent is a must with this disease.

Welcome to LymeNet! We will help you here all we can.

Welcome to Lymenet! PM sent for NH.

You should add "NH" in the title of your post, so people will know specifically where you are looking. To do that, click the pencil/paper icon, make your changes, then click "Edit Post".

Your dear son needs to be evaluated and treated by a Lyme-literate doctor (LLMD). Non LLMDs have no clue about this horrible disease or its complex treatment!

A LLMD is one who has treated Lyme disease and the co-infections which come with it for many years and has gotten patients well. A good one will follow Dr. B's Guidelines, the "gold standard" for Lyme treatment.

Here is a link for them:

http://www.lymenet.org/BurrGuide200810.pdf

LLMDs are far and few between, unfortunately. He needs to go where they are.

Also, most LLMDs do not accept insurance due to the politics surrounding this horrible disease. Read poster TF's explanation, "Why Lyme Doctors Don't Take Insurance":
http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=2;t=025539;p=0

When calling for an appointment, ask if they have any cancellations or a waiting list. Patients have been able to get in sooner by doing this.

Check the online state Lyme groups at:
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/NewHampshireLyme/info

Maybe they can help.

Some more resources for you (including Support Groups info):
http://whatislyme.com/websites-and-support-groups-by-state/

http://www.lymenet.org/SupportGroups/UnitedStates/NewHampshire/

The top LLMD, Dr. H, has written a book entitled, "Why Can't I Get Better?". It is an excellent source of information.

Read "Cure Unknown" by Pamela Weintraub. Get it at your local library or buy it used on Amazon.
