HOLD THE MAYO! No, no, please don't go!!! I wouldn't take a slimy slug there for Lyme disease, much less a child.

If you go to www.MarylandLyme.org you will see a doctor referral section on the menu to your left. That will give you contact information for traditional, natural and other kinds of health care providers from all states that have them.

Once at the doctor referral site you can type in child and see what states have docs that take children if none near-by you. Also try typing in ped and maybe more will come up.

Hope you find someone to help you! Hope the little one is feeling better soon!

BTW- www.DrJonesKids.org is for children with Lyme. Hope it can help you! It also has the doctor referral link.

Welcome to Lymenet! PM sent for WI & MN.

My opinion is ditto on "Hold the Mayo"! My aunt's neighbor's granddaughter went there and was told to drink strong Starbucks coffee for her diagnosed "acute Fibromyalgia"! Turns out she had Lyme all along and was successfully treated by a Lyme-literate doctor elsewhere.

So glad we cancelled our son's appointment years ago at Mayo before making a huge, costly mistake!! The proper treatment and care from competent, knowledgeable, and experienced Lyme-literate doctors elsewhere enabled us to find out what was actually wrong with our son (albeit it after SIX YEARS!!) and has subsequently helped him improve.

Here are some more comments about Mayo posted on Lymenet in the past:

"Echoing: absolutely NOT! Now, Mayo may be good for some things but absolutely not for Lyme or any tick-borne or chronic stealth infection."

"Just one word about Mayo Clinic: No. Just "NO" regarding trying to seek any wisdom about Lyme from Mayo. It's not to be found there, sadly."

This comment on Lymenet generally says it quite well:

"Just forget about getting any help at any hospital. It would be very RARE to find any help there.

Find a LLMD ASAP!!"

Your dear daughter need to be evaluated and treated by a Lyme-literate doctor (LLMD). Non LLMDs have no clue about this horrible disease or its complex treatment!

A LLMD is one who has treated Lyme disease and the co-infections which come with it for many years and has gotten patients well. A good one will follow Dr. B's Guidelines, the "gold standard" for Lyme treatment.

Here is a link for them:

http://www.lymenet.org/BurrGuide200810.pdf

Unfortunately, LLMDs are far and few between. You need to go where they are.

Also, most LLMDs do not accept insurance due to the politics surrounding this horrible disease. Read poster TF's explanation, "Why Lyme Doctors Don't Take Insurance":

http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=2;t=025539;p=0

When you call for an appointment, ask if they have any cancellations or a waiting list. Patients have been able to get in earlier by doing this.

Check the online state Lyme groups at:
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/WisconsinLyme/info

Maybe they can help.

Some more resources for you:

You might also consider finding a "Lyme-friendly" pediatrician in WI who will work with your LLMD. That way, they will be on the same page. The WI Lyme Support Groups I gave you would know better about your state.

Dr. H, the top LLMD, has written a book entitled, "Why Can't I Get Better?". It is an excellent source of information.

Read "Cure Unknown" by Pamela Weintraub. Check the local library or buy it used on Amazon.

Thank you so much for all the information.

My Husband has just started treatment for chronic lymes. So unfortunately we know how tough it is to get someone who really knows about it and how there are different approaches to treating it.

It just seems ten times more scarier for me that my 5 yr old may need to go through this. Thank you again.

You're very welcome - glad to help.

Btw - I know you are new to Lymenet, but please break up your posts into 2-3 sentence paragraphs, as there are people on Lymenet who cannot read large blocks of text due to neurological problems from Lyme.

To do this click the pencil/paper icon, make your changes, then click "Edit Post". Thanks.
