Welcome to Lymenet! PM sent for OH.

You need to be evaluated and treated by a Lyme-literate doctor (LLMD). Non LLMDs have no clue about this horrible disease or its complex treatment!

A LLMD is one who has treated Lyme disease and the co-infections which come with it for many years and has gotten patients well. A good one will follow Dr. B's Guidelines, the "gold standard" for Lyme treatment.

Here is a link for them:

http://www.lymenet.org/BurrGuide200810.pdf

Unfortunately, LLMDs are far and few between. You need to go where they are.

Also most LLMDs do not accept insurance due to the politics surrounding this horrible disease. Read poster TF's explanation, "Why Lyme Doctors Don't Take Insurance":

http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=2;t=025539;p=0

Check the online state Lyme groups at:
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/OhioLyme/info

Maybe they can help.

Some more resources for you (including Support Groups info):

http://whatislyme.com/websites-and-support-groups-by-state/

http://www.lymenet.org/SupportGroups/UnitedStates/Ohio/

The top LLMD, Dr. H, has written a book entitled, "Why Can't I Get Better?". It is an excellent source of information.

Read "Cure Unknown" by Pamela Weintraub. Get it at your local library or buy it used on Amazon.

We have MUCH better lyme doctors in Maryland than what you will find in Ohio or western Pa. That's because we have so much more lyme disease here.

If you would like the name of a good doctor whose practice is strictly lyme disease, let me know. This is critical. It is how a doctor gains expertise in this difficult to cure disease--by treating only lyme patients day in and day out.

And, he will see you quickly. You only have to appear in person once every 3 months. You can do phone or Skype appointments the other months. This doc had lyme disease himself.

I only bring this up to you because I learned in my own lyme journey that the doc is the key. Can't emphasize that enough. If you want the best chance possible of getting rid of this horrendous disease, get to a doc with as much expertise in lyme as possible. It generally takes at least 10 years of treating this disease to be able to handle most cases of lyme.

I wasted 2 years treating my lyme with a doc who did not have enough expertise to get me well. I know many folks who treat year after year and never get well. I hang around LymeNet just to point folks like you to the best doctors. I don't want anyone to have to waste years treating this disease with a doc who doesn't know enough to cure them. This is such a common occurrence that you won't believe it.

Contact the lyme support groups in your state and nearby states and see if they can tell you a doctor who is curing folks of lyme. See Support Groups on the left side of the page. You want someone who has cured at least 3 people of this disease.

If you want to know what I know about the Ohio docs and the western Pa docs, just let me know.

This might seem crazy to you to travel to the Washington, D.C. area, but it is your best chance of regaining your health. At least half of all lyme patients go out of state for their care, and many fly.

So, I highly recommend you go to the very best lyme specialist you can afford, no matter what his location, and give yourself the very best chance of regaining your health. There aren't any top lyme docs in Ohio or western Pa. that I know of, and I have been around for many years.

I got rid of lyme (and babesiosis and bartonella) over 11 years ago, and I am STILL symptom free and enjoying my life. Praise God!

Welcome to LymeNet! We will help you here all we can.

Hi TF,

I live in Ohio, and we do have several good doctors here who treat Lyme disease. I don't doubt that you know good doctors in MD, but most patients here in Ohio cannot afford to travel there.

I am so glad you have overcome Lyme disease and bartonella.

Sending a private message to Meegan.

Ann

Hi, I am also looking for a good LLMD in Columbus, Ohio. And I am looking for Lyme support groups. My spouse has had Lyme since 2013 and I could use some support. Thank you!

Fran C. - Welcome to Lymenet!

You should write a new post instead of adding to an existing one, because most don't re-read old ones. That way, more people will see it and respond.

PM sent for OH.
