Hello,

My boyfriend is currently being treated by Dr. J in MD. Has been going there since 8/15.

We need to seek a new doctor as he is getting no better and by all counts getting worse. And we can't keep putting ourselves through his appointments.

Any recommendations are greatly appropriated. We don't mind traveling so anyone in VA, DC, MD, WV even PA are ok.

Welcome to Lymenet! PM sent for MD, VA & PA.

Your boyfriend needs to be evaluated and treated by a Lyme-literate doctor (LLMD). Non LLMDs have no clue about this horrible disease or its complex treatment!

A LLMD is one who has treated Lyme disease and the co-infections which come with it for many years and has gotten patients well. A good one will follow Dr. B's Guidelines, the "gold standard" for Lyme treatment.

Here is a link for them:

http://www.lymenet.org/BurrGuide200810.pdf

Unfortunately, LLMDs are far and few between. He needs to go where they are.

Also most LLMDs do not accept insurance due to the politics surrounding this horrible disease. Read poster TF's explanation, "Why Lyme Doctors Don't Take Insurance":

http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=2;t=025539;p=0

When calling for an appointment, ask if they have any cancellations or a waiting list. Patients have been able to get in sooner by doing this.

Check the online state Lyme groups at:
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/VirginiaLyme/info

Maybe they can help.

Some more resources (including Support Groups info):

The top LLMD, Dr. H, has written a book titled, "Why Can't I Get Better?". It is an excellent source of information.

Read "Cure Unknown" by Pamela Weintraub. Get it at your local library or buy it used on Amazon.

Sorry to hear about your boyfriend. Hope he will be feeling better soon!

If you go to the site below you'll see on the menu "DOCTOR REFERRALS".

There are listings of doctors (with contact information) for Maryland, VA, PA, WV and DC, as well as other states.

www.MarylandLyme.org

Hope that helps!

May the new year be good to you both.

There are very few doctors equal to your current doctor. So, it is going to be difficult to find someone better.

I can't think of anyone to recommend to you. The one doctor in the area you named who knows more about lyme generally isn't taking new patients.

So, this is a difficult situation.

If you want to write to me privately, I can tell you the one name that you can try to get in with. Just know that the cost is going to be a lot more because this is a top notch doctor.
