Hi everyone We are considering Dr D in Ohio. Does anyone have any experiences to share?

There is a Dr. D in Ohio. His website is: http://www.drdemio.com/ Below I tell you what little I know about him, but if you contact the Ohio Lyme Support Groups, they can give you info on him or others in Ohio near you.

He is basically an autism doctor who also started treating lyme about 3 years ago. So, he doesn't have much experience with lyme at all. 3 years is not really enough experience to get many folks well--unless they just got the tick bite very recently--a simple case, in other words. And, who knows how many lyme patients he even sees in a week.
In general, it takes about 10 years of treating this very complex disease for a smart doctor to get good enough to treat simple and medium cases of lyme. The difficult cases, no.
There are only a handful of lyme specialists in the east that know enough to handle a difficult case of lyme disease.
A lyme specialist is one whose practice is either 100% lyme disease or at least 50% lyme disease patients. That is the only way the doctor can develop expertise with this complex disease(s). So, this is the type of doctor I recommend you look for.
I doubt any western Pa. or Ohio doctor is as good as the doctors we have in the east. I hope you can come here to Maryland or the D.C. area or Connecticut and get some really good treatment.
Plenty of people in your area do this. The lyme specialists will do telephone appointments so you are not traveling to the doctor's office very much at all.
Just know that the best lyme doctors are often not taking new patients or they have extremely long wait lists--like one year.
I always advise everyone to get to the absolute best lyme doctor they can possibly afford, especially if sick at least one year. This gives you the best chance of regaining your health.
I had undiagnosed lyme, babesiosis, and bartonella for at least 10 years before I found out. Still, once I got to a lyme specialist who followed the Burrascano protocol, I got well.
It is now over 12 years since I completed my treatment and I am still symptom free, enjoying my life. I have the same life I had before lyme disease.

Here are a few points from Dr. B's guidelines:
You must attack both the regular and cyst (or other) form of lyme simultaneously--requires at least 2 different antibiotics taken together to do so.
You must test the patient for all co-infections and other physical ailments (thyroid, etc.) and treat everything the person has.
You must treat all co-infections the patient has(including babesiosis, bartonella, ehrlichia, mycoplasma, etc.) or the patient will not get well.
You must use Igenex for most of these tests--they are a tick-borne disease speciality lab in Calif.
You must use very high doses of antibiotics to kill the diseases (batericidal doses).
You must give the patient supplements, probiotics, herbs such as artimesinin if babesiosis is suspected, and require adherence to rules such as low carb diet, no alcohol, no smoking, rest, and exercise as the patient is able to do it.
You must treat at least 2 months after all symptoms have disappeared (if sick at least 1 year).
These are just a few of the important points you will see in the guidelines. If possible, you want a doc who does EVERYTHING Burrascano says to do. He treated lyme for over 25 years, and compiled what he learned so that other docs could benefit from it. He was the most successful lyme doctor on the planet. They came from every country in the world to be treated by him.

Dr D is on the Board of Directors of ILADS. He knows his stuff and covers every last base. I went to him after failing 4 years of treatment with the famous Dr H. I am finally making progress.
