Your son needs to be evaluated by a Lyme Litterate Medical Doctor (LLMD). This is a medical doctor that specializes in Tick and Vector Borne Diseases.

You can request a LLMD through ILADS (International Lyme and Associated Disease Society) here;

These are simple E-mail formats that you fill out and send. There is a message box where you can write you are seeking a Pediatric Lyme Doctor.

Another great website for you to read and learn about Lyme disease is the Children's Lyme Network;

Most LLMD'S don't participate with insurances. Lyme disease is expensive to treat, with the 1st visit being the most expensive. This is why they don't take insurances;

You can connect with your area's Lyme support group. Support groups offer valuable and first-hand Lyme patient's experiences with your area's LLMD'S.

You must become your son's healthcare advocate. Learn all you can about Tick Borne Diseases. You can post any questions you have and lymenet members will respond. Utilize lymenet's 'search' function for treatments and experiences. We are all in this together.

Also, research all LLMD'S before committing. Google for patient reviews or ask support groups in your area. You might have to travel to see a LLMD because there are so few in Iowa unfortunately.

Your son needs to be evaluated and treated by a Lyme-literate doctor (LLMD). Non LLMDs have no clue about this horrible disease or its complex treatment!

A LLMD is one who has treated Lyme disease and the co-infections which come with it for many years and has gotten patients well. A good one will follow Dr. B's Guidelines, the "gold standard" for Lyme treatment.

LLMDs are far and few between, unfortunately. He needs to go where they are.

Also, most LLMDs do not accept insurance due to the politics surrounding this horrible disease. Read poster TF's explanation, "Why Lyme Doctors Don't Take Insurance":

When calling for an appointment, ask if they have any cancellations or a waiting list. Patients have been able to get in sooner by doing this.

Read the books written by the top LLMD, Dr. H, titled, "Why Can't I Get Better?" and "How Can I Get Better?". They are an excellent source of information.

Also read "Cure Unknown" by Pamela Weintraub. View "Under Our Skin" and "Under Our Skin2: Emergence". Check your local library or buy them used on online.

There are great Lyme support groups in the state of Iowa. I highly recommend you do a web search and find their sites and connect with the folks in Iowa that have worked hard to get laws passed.

These fine folks will be able to tell you each LLMD in your state including those that are treating the children of Iowa.
