Thought for the day....... "Affirmation of life is the spiritual act by which man ceases to live unreflectively and begins to devote himself to his lifewith reverence in order to raise it to its true value. To affirm life is to deepen, to make more inward, and to exalt the will to live." Albert Schweitzer

Lightfoot,
Question? I found a quote I want to

display in my butterfly garden, but I

couldn't make out the whole name of the

person who said it. The quote is "Instead

of lamenting the absurdity of the world let

us try to transform the corner of it into

which we were born." I didn't want to not

give the right person credit. The first

name is Andre. The last starts with Ma..

I think. That's all ai could make out.

Thought for the day....... "When speech comes from a quiet heart, it has the strength of the orchid, and the fragrance of rock." Stephen Mitchell, Four Watercolors by Tao-chi

OK, this last one stumps me. Quiet hearts are bad things?

hey foot,
thanks. that one today is one of those that makes you stop and think.

Strength in seeming fragility...sweetness and levity in the hardest things????

Ahhhh, if only that feeling could be bottled and sold to us...it would cure better than the best medicine...enlightenment will have to wait for now

Hi lou!
Mitchell seems to be presenting a koan here.
(koan: NOUN: A puzzling, often paradoxical statement or story, used in Zen Buddhism as an aid to meditation and a means of gaining spiritual awakening.)

His works are focused on bringing the threads of truth underlying the world religions and philosophies together in language, stories and poetry of our day. His books look pretty interesting.
You can read short blips about his many books here: http://www.stephenmitchellbooks.com/anthologies/enlightenedMind.html

So.....there is no right answer......but something to get us pondering.

And to pippy.....glad that one got you thinking too......me too. For me, today, it means a quiet heart sees the all of everything.

Thought for the day....... "We do not grow absolutely, chronologically. We grow sometimes in one dimension, and not in another; unevenly. We grow partially. We are relative. We are mature in one realm, childish in another. The past, present, and future mingle and pull us backward, forward, or fix us in the present. We are made up of layers, cells, constellations." Anais Nin
