Ben Stiller is on Letterman and he mentioned having Lyme Disease but only for like a quick mention. Then Dave even chimed in about Babesiosis, Ehrlichiosis mentioning that Ehrlichiosis is a killer.
I really wish they would have said more but it was just kind of metioned within a story.
Sorry, I know this isn't medical but I thought some might be interested and wasn't real sure where to post it.

Good news that it's being mentioned!
When I called looking for health un-insurance-guaranteed, I was told by representatives at several of these entities that they are seeing more and more frequent lyme diagnoses.
It is sad that it is so wide-spread, but very good news indeed that it is being more frequently diagnosed.
My LLMD said that this only happens when there is other organ system failure like liver, kidney et al. Further, in several decades of practice he has "Never once in my lifetime" lost a patient to lyme or seen anybody else succumb, despite what one may read about it in other sources. So yes, according to him it can happen but it's usually in a near-death state to begin with, when organs are failing, that the lyme finally becomes the last straw, according to him.

I don't think he meant "killer" in a literal sense.
Sorry I forgot to note that when Dave said that he was speaking about his experience with Ehrlichiosis,he had it and now his dog was just diagnosed with it.

Ben Stillers young son has lyme. Ben Stiller was going to have knee surgery but his doctor decided to check for lyme because knee pain is a hallmark of lyme. I didn't know that he had been diagnosed.
My guess is that the real numbers are higher since many cases are never diagneosed.
Mortality/Morbidity The total duration of illness for HME and HGA is unknown. No chronic cases have been reported at this time.
*The HME mortality rate is reported to be 2-5%, while that for HGA is 7-10%. *HME has a reported hospitalization rate as high as 60%, while that for HGA is 28-54%.

Last year Ben was on Howard Stern and talked about how his young son got bitten and got the bulls eye while on Nantucket. He recovered.
But then Ben's knee started hurting and he had all of thse tests and they felt it was maybe lyme. THat was all they talked about it.
