Hi Gang Now I know why this country is broke.
I had an ambulance run while in colorado for my chest pain.
The ambulance got 1700 bucks to take me to the hospital. The hospital got 1100 bucks just for me to pass through the door . 250 for a EKG, 650 for a chest exray.250 for the doctor.
It was only altitude sickness!!!!!
I got home and got diverticulosis,the cat scan was 3600 bucks.
I was really under paid as a auto tech!!
This is how it should have been!!
Drive in to the dealership shop 1000 bucks to pass through the door.
For me to look at your car 250 bucks.
Computer scan 3600 bucks.
oscillis scope check 250 bucks
Tow truck 1700 bucks.
WOW I was underpaid!!!!!!!!

Isnt VERY amazing at how fast the numbers add for even short stays.
Charging by the 'minute' for an operating room is crazy,,,so do they stitch fast to save money,,,or stitch slow to pad the purse!!!
When they did the cat scan,,,how many cats did they find???
Like going to a garage sale and walking up to owner and asking how much are you asking for the garage????

Hi Don I allways wanted to ask what they wanted for the garage,yard, ect.
I was in the emer room for one hour.
I still need a stress test just to be shur it was altitude sickness. Like crap I will!!
From now on unless I am unchonsious no one is taking me in an ambulance to any emer room. I prefer death!!!!
No one deserves that kind of bucks for one hour work. It is the principle of the thing!!! GGRRRRRRRRR!!
And I was going to get a hip replacement,just shoot me before they get that kind of bucks .
Wrong !!!!!!!!1 for anyone to charge that much!!!!GGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!
Worse than oil companies the hospitals are ,they are the defisit problem cause!!!!

OH yeah... I was in the hospital in May for less than 24 hrs and it cost me/my insurance $10,000.
The next two visits weren't quite as bad... not as many tests...but I OWE, I OWE, I OWE.
MADDOG.. can't imagine what a hip replacement would cost. My SIL just had one in June and she is still suffering...actually worse than before the surgery.

Good thing you are on medicare now. But then there's that gap.
I hear you about the charges. Seems like everyone is trying to sock it to their customers to get rich. Not a whole lot of reasonable charges around for any kind of services.
And all the time I was working, I felt like the goal was to have enough money to live on and do something worthwhile. Guess I am just a sucker.

There is another factor, not sure how much difference it will make in for-profit hospitals though. And that is the fact that they have to accept all those people without insurance in the ER, so they hit everyone else to make up for the loss.
IMO, for-profit health insurance companies and hospitals should not be allowed. Why in the world should stockholders get paid for the misery and suffering of sick people?

I hear ya! My 6 days hospital stay last April, while my Neurologist tried to figure out what was wrong with me cost over $150,000!!
We paid out of pocket over $8,000! I got bills for Drs. who walked into my room and left b/c I was sleeping!! Talking about highway robbery! The whole medical system is so messed up.
To think many other countries in the world, people don't even have insurance. Instead, they pay cash for procedures, and yet they still don't have to sell their homes or their cars to pay their medical bills!

All I know is the headlines when I first came down sick and couldn't get answers from Blue Cross/Blue Shield were about how much profit the insurance companies made that year.
Unbelievable amount. We are diffently on the wrong side of the fence.
On the other hand, I think the fence should be taken down. Our system is broke. Don't know what the answers are.

I agree that our medical system is broken. There should be more transparency in regard to charges/fees.
What I don't like about it is that I cannot price shop when I need a procedure. As with everything I purchase I like to know what I am paying for BEFORE I commit! But you cannot do that w/ medical care. And I think that's just plain wrong!
What I find even stranger is that the rate in which they bill our insurance vs. us directly is totally different. And the amount they billed the insurance and the amount the insurance paid them are also different! To this day I still cannot figured out what is out of pocket, vs. deductible vs. copay and when or how to get these criteria met!
The amount of bills you get from a hospital stay is INSANE! I got bills from Drs. I wasn't even wake to met! For what service did they provide watching me sleep, pray tell?

I used to live in France, and as a US citizen I was not given any access to their benefits, and i paid 100% of the medical cost out of pocket.
My Thyroid panel which is $1,600 here is $40 in France My Perscriptions there were $10 (TOTAL-- not copay)
Our expenses are so high in the US because we don't have universal insurance. Its SOOOOOO broken. Aren't we supose to be the world power here?

i am so thankful that i have two insurances. my bc/bs is high option so that helps plus i have marine corps tricare. i do pay several hundred dollars a month for the bc/bs tho. the tricare is one payment once a year and it's not much.
i can go to the base for prescriptions but they never have what my doctor prescribes so i go to walmart.
i really try not to go to the hospital at all. they just haven't helped me. even with two insurances every tme i went it cost me over 1 grand, sometimes 2 and t hat's out of pocket.
my doctor's copay is 20 bucks. i have never paid over 30 dollars for a prescription.
i feel truly blessed.

Hi Gang My medicare paid all but like 300 bucks of it.
Still no excuse to charge that much!!!!!!!
