I have an intake phone appointment with a paralegal tomorrow afternoon (12/12/12) regarding filing a malpractice lawsuit against the hospital where Steve died.
Please pray that I picked the right law firm and that they accept the case. As far as I know the firm is not lyme literate, but those attorneys were few and far between and I couldn't find a lyme literate lawyer who was licensed to practice in Virginia.
The firm I have chosen is small but I liked their website and the fact that they consult with an M.D. regarding the merits of the case before accepting new clients.
So after the phone conference I will be anxiously waiting to hear back -- probably for a couple of weeks at least but not sure exactly how long the process takes.
Should be getting the final F lab test results tomorrow also. Will post that info as soon as it is available.
It has been 2 months since Steve died from lung failure (ARDS) which was a complication of his babesia and other blood borne parasites. The autopsy results might take another 4 months. Also have not talked to Columbia Presbyterian yet (brain and other samples donated to the speciman bank there) -- may wait til after the holidays to do that.
Still dealing with massive insurance paperwork but at least the credit cards are settled so that is one thing off my list.

Praying for you, Bea.
May God hold you especially close during the Christmas season.

i am sorry you have to go through all this. i bought several books and they were a life saver for my sister, the executor.
we didn't know we couldn't even stop the mail!! everything and everybody had to have a power of at attorney, death certificate, or some other kind of paperwork.
luckily she only had one credit card. the house was another matter.
but we had a good law firm and they were fabulous.
i didn't know either that funerals had to be paid for in advance. thank heavens my sister had the money to do that. the estate paid her back.
this will be a long and difficult journey for you but stay the course.
unfortunately, mom died in a military hospital so we couldn't sue but i darn sure would have.
good luck.

Think of you often Bea.
Here's hoping this firm's consulting doc knows something about Lyme. If not, I'd try to go to one of the firms that do - as you would likely find that the travel expense would be well worth it.
May our Lord comfort and guide you.

Bea, I've been thinking about you lately. With the holidays coming I know you have going to be heavy hearted and missing your love so much.
May your angels give you peace, so you can get through the times and tribulations that follow.
Take care of you.
