Several months ago (April 2016) Linden Hu (from the infamous 2001 Klempner Study) coauthored another paper producing the following quote- "Recent evidence supports treating patients with erythema migrans for no longer than 10 days when doxycycline is used and prescription of a 14-day course of oral doxycycline for early neurologic Lyme disease in ambulatory patients."
Hu had received over $6.4 MILLION in Lyme related grants for the 10 years prior to 2014.
In 2014, the same Linden Hu, of the "let's put live ticks on people to see if they can then infect mice" fame (xeno-diagnosis) received another $1 MILLION grant from the government (NIAID) for the following.... FOODSOURCE LURE CORPORATION
"Dr. Hu's laboratory has developed an oral vaccine for mice using a vaccinia virus vector expressing the B. burgdorferi protein outer surface protein A (OspA). In phase I of this project, we developed a stable, highly palatable system for delivering the vaccine to mice and shown that it is immunogenic and protective. ...
In this phase II STTR proposal, we will focus on translating our phase I research towards the development of a commercial product. The next step towards commercialization is receiving USDA regulatory approval to produce and distribute the vaccine in field trials."

In 2015 Hu received another $813,610, from the government (NIAID), for the performing more xeno-diagnosis studies on humans to try to prove active infection is not the cause of persistence. He states...
"Here we propose the Phase II study to determine whether a detection of bacteria by xenodiagnosis correlates with prolonged symptoms in patients after infection with B. burgdorferi. In specific aim #1, we will enroll subjects who have the characteristic erythema migrans (EM) rash after completion of antibiotic therapy.
Changes in the subjects functional capacity over time will be determined by serial testing using the Short Form 36 version 2 (SF-36v2) and the Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS).
Patients will have xenodiagnosis performed at 2-4 months after treatment and again at 8-10 months after treatment. ...
Because only a minority of subjects in Aim 1 are likely to have persistent symptoms, in Aim 2 we will specifically target subjects with persistent symptoms.
We will enroll subjects with persistent symptoms associated with Lyme greater than 6 months after their original treatment. Functional status will be measured by SF-36v2 and FSS and xenodiagnosis will be performed as in Aim 1. Results of xenodiagnosis in asymptomatic patients at the 8-10 month time point from Aim 1 will serve as the comparison group for the subjects in Aim 2.
These studies have the potential to address the controversial issue of whether bacterial persistence is linked to prolonged symptoms in patients who have been treated for Lyme disease. Identifying the link between persistent infections and persistent symptoms is important because it may directly impact strategies that are used to treat chronic Lyme disease."

For years Steven Schutzer received more money than I can count for developing a Lyme test and or vaccine.
WHERE IS IT?
His latest grant ($299,998), using info from Lyme studies, is for a new MS diagnostic test, with the author stating...
"The current study is designed to establish a diagnostic test for early MS. This would be a landmark achievement because no such test currently exists. ...
A diagnostic test for early MS would be of critical importance for patients with this disease by allowing immediate institution of therapy.
We will follow up on our recently published studies indicating protein biomarkers are present at this stage of the disease.
Our team has the expertise and the necessary samples to do achieve this. ...
A reliable, objective diagnostic test for MS will reduce disability and suffering including that for families, health care and lost productivity costs. We have the relevant samples, personnel to start immediately."

Alan Steere received another $435,000 in 2016 for a study on Lyme related autoimmunity and post infectious syndrome.
Yale (Krause, Bockenstedt and Barbour) received another 1.58 MILLION DOLLARS (2015-16) for Lyme related studies, with much of it going toward studying mice (again, still).
New York Medical College received another $402,500 for 2015. Their list of previously funded Lyme related studies (below) would make your head spin.

While we cry and while we wait for answers, what exactly do they have to show for the $$ they've received?
If we don't get some one in power to "follow the money" and make everyone accountable, this waste will continue for another decade, or two, or ten.
We will never get answers if we allow this to continue.

Seeing hundreds of thousands of $$$ going to "study" but never develop any thing of use brings me to the point of anger.
Instead of spending all of that money repeating tests how about providing care for those already reporting chronic neuroborreliosis?!?!?!?

This is infuriating! They just want to "prove" their agenda since the debate over chronic Lyme vs PTLDS heats up and has received more public attention.
Lord, I hope the true side comes out soon, soon, soon. How do these people sleep at night? I don't hate them, I pity them. How sad to be that cruel and heartless. For real.
Maybe they would change their minds if an infected tick bit them, but I honestly wouldn't wish that on anyone.
What a sad, tragic and truly disgusting state of affairs. My blood is boiling.
What is happening to the human race? It's scary. The lack of compassion and meanness seems to be more and more prevalent. And please don't tell me to look for the good, because I try really hard to find the good things in people who have done awful things. I know there are good people out there--just not as many as are needed.
This just disgusts me.
