- Please share this with everyone - and I do mean everyone - you know. Ask them to do the same.
Then be sure to check all your fire extinguishers but don't assume the label at the news article is the only coding -- it can vary so do call Kiddee if any question at all
(and if you don't have one, get one - & call your local fire department, non-emergency number for instructions on how to use, when to use or when to just exit fast . . .
if using one, how to hold, where to point - at the base of the fire - and how much of a "kick" to expect so where to place your feet & the kind of stance to take to hold steady, etc.)
Check back with family and friends as a follow up. This is deadly serious, so, please, do this by Saturday evening.
As changing out smoke alarm batteries with time change is good idea, also good time to check on all fire extinguishers and go over fire management / escape plans with anyone in your home and your neighbors, too.
Please make this a fire prevention weekend.
Maybe clean lint out of the back exhaust tunnel of clothes dryer, and in other places it can get trapped in the dryer, too. -

Sure enough this is the fire extinguisher hanging in our garage. We've had it for years and years.
So I'm going shopping today. How much you want to bet....the shelves will be empty due to recall.

- Glad you checked, Pam. One key seems to be avoid a plastic handle.
My 3 lb. ABC type also a recall model. I had to call Kidde to find out though as the numbers / codes vary. Not on hold for too long and
they will send me a new one with instructions for what to then do with the recalled unit. They were very helpful. -

Thanks for sharing this Keebler!
I've been too swamped to do it, but it has been on my mind too.
Hope everyone takes a look and follows through! It could save your life.

I have First Alert (not Kiddie) extinguishers, but they have plastic handles. Hmmmmm? Better think about that.
Recently got rid of a large OLD extinguisher that was losing pressure and couldn't be refilled.
Plus, these days I figured the old one was way too heavy for me to lift and hold upright in an emergency situation.
After researching, I replaced it with First Alert Tundra extinguishers. They are small- about 10 inches high and 3 inches wide. Bought several to put at least one in each room.
They look and work like a super large can of hair spray and you simply push the top and it sprays.
It also sprays 4 times longer than traditional fire extinguishers and can be sprayed from any direction, where a regular extinguisher must be held upright.
My last fire- I was prepared. I thought.
I heard the two smoke detectors go off in the middle of the night. I was able to get to the fire extinguisher. BUT, even though the extinguisher seemed to be large enough, it wasn't.
I contained the fire to stop it from spreading, but couldn't get it out without going to get a second one from another room. A bit freaky too. Thankfully too, I'd called the fire department first.
Rather than having to buy multiple extinguishers for different kinds of fires like the older models are sorted out, the Tundras are for electric, paper, cloth, wood and/or grease fires. (Like the older "ABC" extinguishers.)
The formula is biodegradable and easy to clean up. (And cleaning up from a regular fire extinguisher is a pig of a mess.)
I got mine from Lowes I think, but I found them on Amazon too.
And they cost me about $14.00 each, saving me money.
So thanks Keebler- you made me get up and go look to be sure I have it covered.
The hurricane mess had one covered up under some insulation boards and at first I couldn't find it, so I was glad I looked. I moved it so I could get to it if needed. Thanks to you!
