I think somebody posted about it here, but I couldn't find that post.
It is from the IDSA's journal, Clinical Infectious Diseases.

If you click on "show more" you can see the whole list of co-authors, including Alan Steere...

To order the text you have to subscribe, or order it for lots of money, or you can have access to it for a short while for $44.00!

I split up the Abstract for easier reading.

Abstract
Borrelia burgdorferi was discovered to be the cause of Lyme disease in 1983, leading to seroassays.

The 1994 serodiagnostic testing guidelines predated a full understanding of key B. burgdorferi antigens and have a number of shortcomings.

These serologic tests cannot distinguish active infection, past infection, or reinfection.

Reliable direct-detection methods for active B. burgdorferi infection have been lacking in the past but are needed and appear achievable.

New approaches have effectively been applied to other emerging infections and show promise in direct detection of B. burgdorferi infections.

This is a strange article. They are NOW, decades later, admitting the tests are failures!

My thought it is more buildup for the new upcomg vaccine. ??
