In the article Owen Gleiberman states: "The filmmakers actually bungle what should have been their real subject (that the belief in chronic Lyme disease has become something of a cult, one that can ruin the lives of the people who think they have it).
Maybe I'm being over-sensitive, but I take that rather personal. If I am out of line, please delete this post.

After reading the article and the 159 comments so far, I think this "film critic" did us a service - he got us riled up.
Three quarters of the comments there on his article about documentaries nominated or not for the Oscars are about what he said about UOS.
And no, River, your feelings are not out of line! Thanks for posting about this!
We have an opportunity to make our views known there - go read and have at it.
Btw, two comments I liked:
As our nation grapples with healthcare, UOS carries a message that our lawmakers and the public must see in the next few months.
Whatever the motives of Mr Movie Critic are, it cannot be ignored that most of the comments regarding his critique are about UOS; so on the criteria of controversy, UOS should win the Oscar.

This angers the hell out of me. In order to protect the interest of the (insert derogatory insult here)people profiting off the suffering of real people with REAL ailments, the powers that be always start flinging names. It absolutely SCREAMS of insecurity and "Oh crap, we're getting busted!" .
They use terms like cult, hypochondriac, conspiracy theorist, blah blah blah. This is absolutely insulting and would be hilarious if it were not such a serious issue. I would certainly not want to be in these people's shoes when they meet their maker. That's a hell of a lot of sickness and death to answer for.
I cannot wait to see the day that CLD is proven and accepted as reality.
I can live with a label of hypochondriac or what have you. It's MILES better than being a greedy, murderous profiteer. Nuff said.
My opinion is that the story writer is pouting because he didn't see what he wanted on the Oscar nom list. Boo hoo.

P.S. Major kudos for those who left comments under the article!
*edited to add more...
I am very proud of all the comments under that ridiculous article. So many fabulous answers, and ones with facts!
I would love to see Mr. Gleiberman volunteer to sit in a locked room with infected ticks. See if his opinion on LD changes after a bite or two.

My sentiments exactly... how easy for someone to sit and pass judgement...until they have walked a mile in someone elses shoes...Like ANY of us would have wished this on ourselves..heck I wouldn't wish what I've been through on my worst enemy!!!! Take care all and God Bless (:
