Dear HB1326 supporter,
I wanted to take a moment to bring you up-to-date on happenings since HB1326 passed the House on February 17th.
The next step is for the House to notify the State Senate that this bill has passed the House and is ready for the Senate to address.
Though it has passed the House, at this time it does not appear that this bill has been reported to the Senate, but that is not surprising and actually quite normal in our legislative process.
One of the deadline dates in our legislative calendars in what we call ``crossover.'' The crossover date, March 25, is the deadline date for the House to act upon all bills that started in the House.
This is also the deadline date for the Senate to act upon all bills that started in the Senate. Currently the State Senate is busy working on getting Senate bills out before the March 25 deadline.
This is their priority over addressing House bills (like HB1326). We expect that HB1326 will not be taken up by the Senate before the March 25 crossover date.
So what are we doing, and what can you do?
At the present time my team of House legislators and I have been meeting weekly, strategizing with the same group of individuals from the Lyme community (people that represent your interests) that guided us through the House process.
We have been discussing the strategy needed to get the Senate to pass HB1326, just as the House did.
There are differences between the House and Senate that make us acutely aware that we will need to modify our approach to getting Senate support from the strategy we used in getting House support.
These discussions continue and will be conveyed to you as soon as they are finalized.
I know and appreciate the enthusiasm of many of you who would like to immediately contribute to the efforts to get this bill passed.
I will respectfully ask you at this time, though, please, please, please do not write letters to your State Senator or try contacting them at this time.
To do so at this time, without having a strategy that is fully developed, puts in jeopardy all the gains we have made to date.
We fully understand your desire to help, and we will be calling upon you through Action Alerts when the time is right.
I am very grateful for the efforts of all in getting HB1326 passed in the House.
You are all an integral part of our expanded team and this initiative will need your assistance to get it to become law.
For now though, allow the strategizing to continue, enjoy the warm sunshine, and rest up for when you will be called upon to bring your support of HB1326 to the State Senate.
As we get any information from the Senate regarding HB1326, this information will be promptly passed on to you.
My thanks and gratitude,
Rep, Gary Daniels
