The movie How to Suvive a Plague is now showing on Netflix.
The similarities of the non-action of the U.S.government, the CDC, the FDA, doctors, hospitals, and big pharma causing so much human sufferring are identical, when you compare the AIDS virus and the Lyme bacterial disease.

Many hospitals refused to treat AIDS patients. If they died, they were placed in garage bags. Some funeral homes refused to accept them.
Many AIDS patients became their own scientist. They obtained drugs from other counties and had underground treatment centers they set up.
1989. At the International AIDS Conference in Montreal, Canada they demanded treatment guidelines and trials.
Act up advocates reached out to pharma drug company's, Bristol Meyer's and Mereck to conduct research and trials.
1990. Catholic church's Arch Bishop Cardinal John O'Connell publicly states condom use is 'morally unacceptable' in the fight against AIDS.

Their tactics were to arrouse anger to create action and empowerment. Their methods worked as the FDA approved a new drug, DHPG.
They stormed and protested at NIH in Bethesda, Maryland and blocked access to buildings. They demanded new clinical trials, more research dollars, drugs. They chanted "The whole world is watching." Numerous arrests and police brutality.
NHI refused to put any AIDS community members on research committees, let them attend meetings, and have open meetings not held secretly.

Quote : "While we might anger you, we have saved the lives of thousands, please join us !"
Quote : "Our government has the resources to deal with AIDS epidemic but they won't do it unless we force them."
1990. 1,000,000 deaths worldwide
Advocates set their sights on President George H Bush. They storm and protest at Bush compound in Kennebunk, Maine while President Bush is on vacation and playing a round of golf.
President Bush replies by saying the US spends over 4 billion dollars on AIDS research. He also cuts 150,000,000 from the budget of the NIH.
Senator Jessie Helms responds to advocates by saying "shut up and keep your homosexual lives to yourselves" on the senate floor.

AIDS has become a big issue in the governments election campaign.
Advocates storm and protest at the National Mall in Washington, D.C.. They laid out the AIDS quilt containing over 20,000 names of their loved ones who died. Red dye was placed in the water fountains. Many brought their loved ones ashes and threw them over the White House fence. Many who attended were in wheelchairs or hooked up to IV poles. All cried.
1996. Major breakthrough in treatment with new drugs. Advocates were responsible for this by fighting for excellerated approval of drugs, expanded access to drugs, larger trial sizes, and increased funding of research.
Advocates self educated themselves and forced combination therapies aimed at the individual patient. The end result was virus was dormat at day 30 of protocol.
Quote : "I feel like I fought a war and am wondering why I got to come home, and others didn't."
