I have recently begun a new treatment protocol, which consists of Plaquenil 200mg twice a day and Zithromax 250mg twice a day. Since adding the Plaquenil, I have felt "strange in the head" so to speak. I am not sure if it is a Herx symptom or an adverse reaction to the medication. If anyone has had a similiar experience or any suggestions, I would love to hear from you. Thank you for your help!!

Susan:)

I was on Biaxin and Plaquenil for three months and felt very strange at times-didn't feel connected to reality and felt weird.
I too thought it might be a herx but these drugs can cause mood/mental changes at times. It's a hard call but if it doesn't let up call your doctor.
Sometimes we suffer and push on when it is not good at all to continue. When I told my doctor and he didn't seem to know I stopped the drugs.

I am on zith, plaquinil and mepron (5 weeks) and have many of the same sensations...as well as shakes and nerve stuff.

I am very curious to hear what others have to say.

I was on plaquenil for 2 months and experienced decreased hearing and my liver enzymes (alt) became elevated.

After stopping the plaq the hearing semi returned to "normal" and my alt normalized.

Hello Susan,

It's Jen in SF...

So glad you got to Dr. H!!!

Yes, it's normal. I am wondering though...do you have a fever, even a slightly elevated one?

Along with night sweats??

I know Plaqenil also targets babesia that also causes people to be dizzy...

PM me soon and take a deep breath with everything..I know it's overwhelming!!

Talk to you soon.

Jennifer

just a note....something to be aware of, but not panic....my doctor told me that plaquenil

can cause damage to your retina...so you should

see an optomotrist every few months or so...to

make sure no damage is being done...

he said he's never seen anyone go blind or heard

of it really happening...it's just one of those

things that a poor lab rat got super high doses

and went blind...

I'm sure your docs know this...

It was just something new to me that I just

learned from my recent visit with my LLMD...so

thought I'd share...this could be very old news to many...

mahalos~
