Well I saw my doctor today and he says it looks like I am right on track and am beginning to improve. I can feel a difference the last few days but not real sure it is a good difference or not. Still real weak and wore out most of the time.
I got my lab results and have a few questions.
My first blood test my WBC was in the lower range or normal but after 3 weeks on ABX it is low 3.2. I am on rocephin by IV and I thought when taking an antibiotic that my white blood cell count would go up in normal range and not down and to low? Maybe I shouldn't be thinking but what is causing my WBC to go down out of normal range?
Plus my MCH and MCHC is high. What are those two initials for and why are they high?
In my differential part of my blood work the Mono part is 9 which is one point from being hi. normal is 0-9 What is up with that?
in the compheresive metabo my CO2 is high 32 where normal is 23-29. What is up with that?
My first blood test everything was in the normal range barely but normal at least (nice to know I can be normal in somethings) Why the change now that I am on stuff to "help" all of my numbers they are all taking a nose dive or going high. What is up with that? Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Stacie

I'd say don't freak out about slightly high or low levels on things. Keep an eye on them, for sure, and it's great that you're being so aware of the results and noticing these things (I do the same thing) but if things are a point or two high or low usually it's not anything to worry about and it's just the normal fluctuations. However, if it's consistently high or low, or jumps around A LOT then it might be something to talk to your LLMD about.

I can address the low WBCs. Cephalosporins (of which Rocephin is one) can cause low WBC counts. Not sure why, maybe other people can come on here with more info about why, but I just know that that's probably the cause of this for you. Some people have to go off Rocephin for a little while (a week or two) until the WBCs come back up before resuming treatment. When I was on Rocephin 2grams/day, 7 days/week my WBCs dropped to around 2.8 at the lowest and I was close to having to take a break from the Rocephin but I switched antibiotics before it got to that (plus I had gallstones so I had other things to worry about from the Rocephin).

Lish's Mom has talked about Cordyceps for low WBCs, her daughter Lishka has had this reaction to Rocephin and apparently the Cordyceps has been the only thing to consistently help keep them up. Here are links to two of the threads where she says a little more about it: http://flash.lymenet.org/ubb/Forum1/HTML/025273.html http://flash.lymenet.org/ubb/Forum1/HTML/024588.html

Hope this helps you!

I have been struggling with low WBC counts for a year and a half.Low WBCs are common when taking meds, but yours are low so keep an eye on them.I would have my blood checked often if they are that low.Mine were just recently as low as 3.1,I added more b-comlex supllements(solgar b-complex)and the next two weeks in went up to 3.5.I kept with the b-complex and the last one went up to 3.8.Stay away from crowds, sick people and wash your hands quite a bit.
