Which med is better for the treatment of chronic lyme Clindamycin or Doxycycline? One doc says Clind. and the other Doxy. so its up to me. Gee, what to do. Still haven't found a LLMD . One doc says doxy is good for current lyme but would like clindamycin for chronic.

Still making myself sicker over all this...I think i will take both and say what the heck..

Tks.

I have heard both are good and Clindamycin also hits babesia. You have to be careful with that one because of the potential risk for C. Diff.

Doxy is also effective against Bartonella, but is usually paired with one other abx.

My symptoms are more in my head, sinus infections, off balance, blurry vision, lots of crying, depression/anxiety. Is this more babesia or bartonella? Oh I hate all the what if's and do I or don't I.

I would like to treat this without antibiotics, as they have helped some but not all. I am so med sensitive..

Tks.

Clindamycin helped my balance. I had blurry vision and it's better. Crying was better. It got rid of the balance problems, but I have since stopped it and added a new med and my balance is off again.

We're all completely different when it comes to how we respond to treatments. We have no idea until we try something. I don't think you should mix them since you won't know what's doing what.

Oral clindamycin works for me - 150mg 1-2/day stops all fibro and joint swelling symptoms. I never got C diff from it, in over four years I've been taking it.

When I started, I took it every six hours for a month until I herxed, then dropped back to 1-2/day.

Phyl, for eye symptoms, I drink mangosteen juice - you can check other threads here for our discussions. It also cleared out my sinuses.

For depression, a homeopathic remedy, pulsatilla 12x, made me high. Again, we're all different in how we respond.

There are lots of nonantibiotic options too. Many people do Buhner herbs (book - Healing Lyme, yahoo site - Lyme_Aid_Buhner, www.planetthrive.com), some do Cowden protocol, some have tried Zhang herbs (Chinese).

Lots of supplements.

Energy treatments - rifing, light machines, magnet machines, etc.

phyl, I've been ill over 10 years possibly as far back as 26 years... When I found out it was Lyme this past summer, I didn't want to risk getting worse by going on abx because most days I was around 70%, just by trying to live a healthy lifestyle.

I've started A-Bart and at first never felt anything but when I reached 10 drops, wow! I have been herxing for the past 3 days. Still not sure how I will feel after but if this doesn't work, I may eventually go the abx route.

Buhner herbs are really good too! Just too expensive for me right now..

I think your symptoms can be attributed to either of the two co-infections.. Best to get tested..

My LLMD says his patients see the most gains on doxy long term.

I take it with plaquenil.

I have improved on doxy, and haven't taken clindamycin.

Your symptoms sound like bart. I take Clindamycin for it and it has helped. But this was after a long stretch of doxy.

I feel that doxy has been helpful for me. I also have just added clindamycin as well. I have started at a very low dose though and will work my way up so I am not sure yet if it will be helpful for me or not.

I am mainly doing the clindamycin for chronic strep though.

Just wanted to say that I am taking both. Would that be an option for you? I have reduced the doxy to every other day and doing the clinda daily.

I guess if you are starting out doxy might be a good first step if you have to choose just one since that would also tackle Ehrlichia (and I believe some other things) if you happen to have that.

Good Luck with your treatment!
Pam :-)
