I likely have had Lyme for many years, but my symptoms really came into full force after a dog bite and a subsequent tetanus shot. I'm wondering if there is any relationship between all of this.

Vaccines are very hard on Lyme patients. Could have brought things to the forefront.

I think so. That's what happened to me too... 17 years ago. It was called chronic, reactive arthritis due to a dog bite.

Never knew I had lyme or anything until I had a tetanus shot in the fall of 1999. A week later, tingling in my legs... weakness... you name it.. it came on.
Then came 8 months of tests to figure out what was wrong with me....
I must have been in remission for years or something and the tetanus brought it out... I won't ever get another one of those again!

When I first got bit, a highly uneducated physician said I need a tetanus shot b/c of the bite. Being uneducated myself at the time, I got one then and there. BIG MISTAKE. Sometimes I wonder if my condition would not have become so rough so fast if I had not gotten it.

- I assume your shot was some time ago, not like last week ?
A tetanus shot totally changed my life on April 1, 1987. I've not been the same since. I became someone autistic and prone to seizures. I know my IQ is far less and my social ability took a huge dive from being able to speak to hundreds at one time to even now barely being able to talk to one person. If two are in a the room, I'm overwhelmed.
However, tetanus can kill in a very short time frame (hours, even minutes). This is one time when the vaccine may be wise. But, if one has enough advance notice, it may be possible to find one without mercury or other harmful additives - and to support the body as best possible before and afterward.
I wish I had know more then but the internet had not yet even been invented. The shot landed me in the E.R. with convulsions and all I was told later was that I might have been allergic to horse serum, as one of the ingredients.
My brain and nervous system truly took a huge hit that day and I have not recovered from that. Still, tetanus can kill in a flash, so that is important to keep in mind.
Here's to the advocates who push for SAFE vaccines. But that is not likely to happen given our political climate. Just last week the autism-vaccine connection was blasted. As a society, we've not been great at hearing out those who have really studied this. The main researchers on this were just clobbered. Big sigh.
Other than for tetanus, though, I would never, ever consider another vaccine for myself. Other flu vaccines also made me very ill for up to a year - bed bound. Twice. -

Like others, I won't get another one.
Been bitten by dogs twice. Once I had to do the rabies shots (while on IV for Lyme)... my my that was fun....
And the second time no rabies shots but a tetanus shot and I got much worse... and, like Keebler, I haven't been "right" since.
In fact, NO vaccines for me.. or flu shots either.
Oh, did I mention? I had seen the Walgreen's ads for flu shots hanging on nearly all the shelves in the store (like they were "on sale")... but... worse than that...
They were selling GIFT CARDS for flu shots!!! Right in with the big rack where they had store gift cards at Christmas time.
