I am so torn about the flu shot every year.

I tend to get the flu each year at some point and I regress in my illness and it is so stressful.

I also am stressed over the actual vaccination

I was curious what percentage of this group goes ahead and does get it??

I don't think it's a good idea - no proof that it works, plus it has fillers in it that may not be so good for us - upshot is that it could majorly challenge our immune system -

I appreciate your dilemma.

I used to get the flu shot every year, and I never had an adverse reaction. The year I got pneumonia was the year I didn't get the shot.

But one of my kids became very ill after a flu shot, so for her--never again.

In researching the flu vaccine we have decided that it is best for our family to not get the flu shot.

Instead we are loading up on Vit D3 and Vit C to strengthen our immune systems.

And of course we wash our hands regularly and use hand sanitizers if/when in public and avoid sick people to the extent possible (we tell our family/friends to not visit us if they are sick).

Is there any way you can limit contact with people during flu season?

I was thinking of asking for Tamiflu to have in case there is an onset. Do you think a doctor would prescribe that way?

Also what other scripts do doctors use for the flu when you catch it early enough??

Why the heck would you continue to get the shot if it's made you regress each time before?

No. No. Never. Never.

Flu shots are contraindicated for those with chronic fatigue (whatever the cause) as mitochondrial and immune system dysfunction.

You will find documentation of this from several do doctors linked in past threads. One doctor, last name starts with an "H" has a full video lecture about this for CFS & lyme patients and why they are to avoid vaccines.

There are many past threads about this topic from last year. And many good articles on the web. Be sure to research this fully, not just on this thread.

Mercury, aluminum and other adjuvants in most vaccines pose a risk, especially to those in ill health.

Even if you could get one that is Thimerosal-free (mercury-free), it might contain a lot of other things that are also toxic.

It would be good to do a web search on:

adjuvant, vaccine

adjuvants, vaccine

"Russell Blaylock" vaccines

However, I would consider a tetanus vaccine as tetanus is nothing to mess around with, nothing to chance and can kill in a very short time frame.

Thimerosal-free would be nice but not sure if it can be free of other adjuvants.

Hi Spring,

Somehow I contracted the flue this weekend. (I am so careful about washing my hands) At any rate, earlier this evening, I had a sore neck/throat, achey chills etc.

I have made great progress with the salt/c and Parastroy in killing the parasites/Lyme etc. I haven't had any dieoff (diarreah) in 3 months.

Well today I did non stop for about an hour. My flu symptoms are almost gone. I guess the flu bug is susceptible to these 2 protocols.

Maybe starting them now could stave off the flu for you, or at least modify the hit you normaly get. What do you think?

Lyme damages the mitochondria & causes mitochondrial dysfunction.

. . . Below is a video in which Infectious Disease Specialist Dr. Kent Holtorf is interviewed about the swine flu and its vaccine.

He strongly recommends that people with mitrochondrial dysfunction, chronic neurological illnesses, fibromyalgia and ME/CFS not get the vaccine.

To use his word, he has seen it devastate people with FM and ME/CFS.

This YouTube Video is no longer available

No way. I do not believe that they work and do believe that they can cause great harm.

I have a college friend who became a research MD, and after many years in the field and seeing the data on adverse reactions to the flu vaccines, he says he will never take it or let anyone in his family take it.

No way in hell would I ever get one again. The one and only shot I ever got (before I knew better) nearly destroyed me for more than 2 months.

Mind you, I just recently had the flu a couple weeks ago (for the first time in more than a decade). Three unpleasant days, one icky day. And that was it. Done and over.

I'll tell you - the flu sucked but was a PIECE OF CAKE compared to what I went through when I was sick from Lyme/Bart.

No flu shot for my family. We all take lots of vit D. Eat lots of garlic or take a garlic supplement.

We do lots of handwashing but NOT with antibacterial soap.

It's looking like the strain of flu this year is pretty severe. We've had some reported deaths in our area.

We need to do everything we can to protect our families.

It would be interesting to see how many people actually get the shot, then get sick. I'm sure we'll never know because the powers that be don't want us to know. GREED!

Nope. Not our family! Never. Investigate. Find out what else goes into those shots! Horrible! Check out Dr. Mercola's site. IF YOU DO, make sure you ask for the thimerisal-free shot, but they will still be injecting all the other crap into you.

Vaccines can cause much damage to the immune system. I got sicker after taking the shot a few years ago.

A supplement called Monolaurin, which is found in coconut oil and human breast milk, is a good preventative during flu season.

We take Ecological Formulas brand. You can get it on the internet.

You might want to google it and take a look.

Wow. STrong responses

I Have to admit I have gotten the shot before for a couple years after I did have A SEVERE flu Episode.

I tend to get it SEVERELY and lasting for a month or so.. Not a few days

ANd so the above poster knows I do not get sick from the shots or have not in my past

Yet I do pay attention and realize there are risks. For me though I get it so severely I am in so much fear of regressing in this illness back to STep ! and this Has happened to me.!

Do you know how much harder it was to treat the 2nd time around and YEARS ANd YEARS again to get to a place I was out of bed.

SO I hope you understand my concern and it does not sound like anyone has had the severe flu or the regression of there illness like I have from having such a violent flu for so long etc.

So I am still torn and I am going to my doctors tommorow.

I got sick a few months ago and it was not even the real flu and it still lasted me 3 weeks and I thought I was not going to pull out of it and that I was going to end up backwards again

I do take all the things listed above. Not Salt C but good idea and I do all the things preventative wise and supplement wise etc. Its not always enough.

Ugh
Still frustrated

What has worked for us and I'm hoping it continues to work this year is to get enough sun in the summer to naturally bring up Vit D levels. We try to start getting some sun in late March, early April.

Then in Sept. when the kids go back to school, start taking vitD3 daily with a multi and vit. C.

In Jan. we take Sambucol daily as well. Twice a day. We don't take it on the weekends and days there is no school. We take it through early April.

If anyone starts to get sick with anything, we double their vit D dose for a few days with extra C and no multi because it contains iron.

Praying that it works again this year as we will not take flu shots - too risky.

Only my daughter (who has asthma & had pneumonia 4 times in the first 6 years of her life) gets one. She's now 9 & hasn't had pneumonia since getting the flu vaccine.

My lyme boy (now 8) does not get one. I didn't know it was contraindicated, even his LLMD said he should get one. I went against the Dr's advice because I realized symptoms worsened shortly after the flu vacc. (Especially his eye symptoms).

Glad I went with my gut on that one. Hasn't had one now in 3 years.

Never again. I work in the inpatient rehab world and every year we see Guillian Barre cases confirmed from the flu shot. The government knows it can cause but the risk is outweighed by the risk of local pandemic. Nobody in my family gets the shot.

I have gotten one every year for a long time. I did not notice anything different afterwards. Maybe I am just lucky or maybe it did affect me, as I always decline in winter.

This year I got a very bad cold and it sent me into a tailspin, so I understand how you feel.

I will never get another vaccine. My LLMD said the incidence of tetanus is so low that he would even advise against a tetanus shot. Too many people on this board have had major relapses or reactions from vaccines.

It seems like the only people that speak up about shots here are the ones that are extremely opposed to them. I do not think that there is a blanket right or wrong answer. It depends on your personal state of health and your potential risk of exposure.

When I worked and was in school I always got the flu shot. I never had a problem with it. The only year that I didn't get the shot (because of a shortage, not by choice) I ended up getting sick with the flu. It was terrible.

Now my immune system is weak so it won't be able to form the proper antibodies from the vaccine. I did not get the shot this year because my LLMD advised me not to.

In years past my LLMD did recommend that I get the vaccine. This year was different. My family and close friends all got the vaccine to help protect me.

Springshowers, we are all at different places in our illness. You have to weigh your options carefully and decide what is best for you. What does your LLMD recommend? The thought of relapsing further is terrifying to me.

I am being advised to get one in my situation.
I asked for more time to think it over some more.

It is true we are all different.

I am not so sure I agree with the extreme answers such as vaccines are the root of all our problems and why we are in the boat we are in.

But I do share the concern of many and my own concerns too that I am trying to weigh out.

It is not really as simple for some as others.

Springshowers,

I would readily agree with you that some decisions are not as easy as others. We choose not to get the flu shot for VARIOUS reasons, but in the end, you have to make that decision for yourself.

If you do choose do get it, please don't let others make you feel guilty about it. I hate it when people try to get me to vaccinate my family when we have done our homework and came to our own conclusions.

The same goes for the other side. I will NEVER make someone feel bad about choosing to vaccinate. That's the beauty of America-the freedom to choose!!

I only hope that my freedom to NOT vaccinate is not taken about from me by people who think they know best. Now THAT is a scary thought!

Blessings to you!

It works for me but apparently not for some.

i continue to read on this board about how lack of sunlight exposure resulting in a lack of d3 production is the cause of the increase in colds and flus during the winter. once again i have to say this doesnt hold true with the current trends. right now the most infected areas in the united states are in the south while the dakotas, where i bet people dont get much sun, have the lowest rates for flu right now.

if sunlight keeps flu at bay how do people in the cayman islands ever get sick?

i have also tried sambuco for colds with no noticeable success.

I got a flu shot several years ago, before I

went into treatment, and got really sick from

it. I had the flu for almost two months, and

then I found out from my LLMD- because it took

so long to get treatment - by the time I got to

him, it was chronic, that my immune system was

wiped out and made it more easily for me to get

sick from the vaccine than the actual flu. So

use your best judgement, if you don't feel

comfortable about getting it Don't.

I got the flu shot in Sept before I knew I had lyme/bart. I haven't had issues w/ it in the past but would rather not get it either. I will probably skip it next year.

LOMATIUM treats flu.

It's an herb in the parsley family growing in dry Western plains.

Historically, it saved the Washoe Indian tribe from the 1918 pandemic flu.

LOMATIUM dissectum. It's easy to google and buy the LOMETIUM extract from the internet or from iherb.com.

I keep posting about this, but no one seems to notice.

This LOMATIUM completely, permanently wiped out, eradicated, my Herpes simplex lip sores. Permanent cure. It's ANTI-VIRAL.

Wow, canefan, tell us how you really feel! [Big Grin]

No, my family does not get the flu vaccine. But we've always been healthy until lyme&co.

Have always opted for the natural rather than the manmade and flu vaccines fall into the manmade catagory for me.

Pamoisondelune- Thanks for the info on LOMATIUM

I currently take Elderberry Extract when I feel any kind of respitory ailment coming on but I will check out the LOMATIUM and see what I can find out, I googled it and read a little, but would like to read some more before consider using it.

How much do you take? and is it liquid or Capsule?

Have you had any negitive sided effects from it ?

I never get the flu shot. I take other precautions, ie wash hands , take vitamins & supps
I don't even consider the flu shot an option for me. I know some people swear by it but I am not one of them. I will stick with my herbs.

Lymetoo said, "Most of us don't get communicable diseases very easily anyway."

I'm not sure about that. I know quite a number of people who have Lyme who seem to get every cold that comes around and are more susceptible to flu.

Because my LLMD has recommended I don't get a vaccine (and only told me to get tetanus once it's been 10 yrs since my last shot) I don't, but I do encourage people in my household to get shots to protect me. I also handwash frequently and try to avoid big crowds when I go out.

This approach is still not 100% effective as I did get some flu last year and was miserable. And I have had colds, too.

Sleep is a big issue for me. If I slept better, it would probably improve my immune system. Right now, it's hit and miss how much sleep I'll get.

The problem is not so much with the concept but with the product that contains mercury, aluminum, formaldehyde, the additive 2-phenoxyethanol - and other impurities.

There is a collection of voices to develop SAFE vaccines:

. . . If a small thing like cleaning up our vaccines to remove suspect impurities would help, why don't we do it?

Who knows what other kinds of problems may be associated with impurities? . . . .

With the swine flu craziness last year, I also bought some "influenzium" from Natual Health Supply. It's homeopathic.

Hope it's still good since I've had it a year now!

Just throwing this out to help anyone who doesnt' want to get the vaccine and wants to be prepared.

shadesofpurple--- about LOMATIUM:

I've never taken it for flu. It worked so fantastically for me, wiping out my Herpes simplex sores, that i know it's anti-viral.

I don't know what the dosage would be for flu. Some websites will tell you.

You can buy LOMATIUM either as pills or drops. Personally i took it as drops, an extract.

You can also buy the dried herb by the pound.

About sideeffects---- I didn't have any. LOMATIUM wiped out the Herpes lip sores in a day or two or a week. After that i continued to take it for ayear, for lyme; but i don't think it had any effect on the lyme, as far as i could tell.

I took inconsistent doses, about 10 or 20 drops per dose, one or 3 doses per day; but that wasn't treating an acute flu.

I read that it takes one pound of fresh herb to treat 3 days of 1918 pandemic flu.

Stephen Buhner posted that it is a strong herb, only take it for a month. I posted a Q, saying i had taken it for a year. He replied, "If you have that kind of tolerance, go for it!"

So i would imagine that people with a delicate stomach should take MIlk Thistle to protect their liver.

How do people know if they officially have the flu virus anyway? Aren't we supposed to run a fever with the flu? And how many of us even run normal temps, let alone fevers?

I felt extra achey for a few days a couple of weeks ago, had a majorly stuffy nose. Turned out to be a sinus infection, though I got to thinking normally this would have been called the 'flu' by my family and PCP.

I think the term 'flu' is overused and that most people normally have infections, not colds or the flu. If it includes yellow-green ooze, sorry, but it's infection to me.

I didn't get the flu shot, and I never intend to get one again. Growing up I got one every year and ended up with TWO brutal sinus infections per year without fail. One in spring...one in fall.

Someone posted that they get the flu shot every year and haven't gotten the flu in years.

I don't get the flu shot EVER and have NEVER had the flu. Even when my husband and daughter got it, I didn't.

Flu shots are a crap shoot. They GUESS at what strain is going to hit for that year.

If you get a shot for say..type A and type B is what is going around, it doesn't really matter that you got the shot.

Doesn't mean you WILL get the flu either. [Big Grin]

Elizzza811,

Your PCP can do the nasal swab test with results in 15 minutes. This is how I discovered by 12 year old had it. If not for the test, we would have just thought is was a little virus of some sort. It was influenza B and no big deal and not a very high fever. Lasted for about 3 days. Believe it or not but I (the lymie) was the ONLY one in the family not to get it!! And I was the caregiver to all!! Guess all my supps and LDN helped. With a CD57 of 22, who would have thought it!!? Our PCP put them on 2,000 mg Vit C until they felt better and that really helped I think.

I got the H1N1 /flu combo, HepA&B, typhoyd and TDAP the beginning of this year (due to international travel). The past 2 months have been the best months in symptoms since my Lyme symptoms started

Not saying anyone should get them, only giving my experience.
