Whatever you take, take at least 100 CFU's per day. Wish someone had told me that 10 yrs ago!

I have personal experience with the ones listed above.
I've heard good things about Healthy Trinity and Custom Probiotics also.
Flora Source is good if you take enough of it.. (it has 16 strains of good bacteria!!).. but it's actually cheaper to take VSL#3 when you count the CFU's.
Theralac is about the same price as Flora Source, but I've only taken one bottle of FS and then switched to VSL. I know for sure that Theralac works.

If you have insurance that covers prescription, the VSL#3-DS is the best. I got a 3 month supply for $50 through my long term prescription.
I found this tip on the forum and will try this next time: For those who have insurance who will pay for it, and have a doctor who is friendly, ask for 4x daily, which is the maximum recommended dose. Some insurances will pay for the DS version. None pay for the regular version that I am aware of.
The pharmacist may look at you a little strangely for the 4x script, but you'll get a lot of boxes of the stuff for a single copay. $20 got me over a year's worth.

I do the same as momlyme but I have to pay $80 for a 3-month supply. Still quite a deal. I get so many boxes I have trouble fitting them in my refrigerator!
Momlyme must have a BIG fridge!!

Good point! I do take them out of the boxes and put them in brown paper lunch bags. They do take up a lot of space in the fridge.

One thing my LLMD pointed out is... Probiotics are killed by stomach acids, about 90% of them. So he pointed out that it is a waste of money to buy the powder, use the capsules instead. They melt in the small intestine, which is where they will do the most good.
I really am very impressed with New CHapter Organics product called Probiotic All-Flora. Really excellent!
Make sure whatever you get is (a) broad-spectrum (many different kinds of bacteria b) contains inulin and FOS (Fructo-oligosaccharides) which feed the healthy bacteria and which they grow on
Saccharomyces Boulardii is called "yeast against yeast" in France. Despite being a yeast organism itself, it actually fights candida and aids bowel evacuation, which is important.

If you look at the label on New Chapter's, it has a large amount of fermented soy. Being in the Thyroid arena for a while, most tend to stay away from Soy even the fermented kind.

My favorite one I have ever used is by New Chapter Organics called Probiotic All Flora.
It is cultured on live foods and in capsules. Contains FOS and inulin which feed the friendly bacteria.
I have found that it works really well and I need a lower dosage of it than other products, to yield the same good effect as a higher dosage on other brands I have used.
CAUTION does contain soy. Anybody allergic to soy should not use this product. No dairy, gluten, etc but check the label before you buy it to be sure I am not making any mistake!

I love the VSL also.. It's done wonders for me, I only wish I knew about it years ago also. Just read you can ask for a script for it.. I will do that, since I spend $150.00 a month on it. Thanks for sharing that.
