I was just wondering what defined low carb to others. How many grams of carbs to you consume a day? And does it keep you from getting massive yeast overgrowth or allow you to make progress against your yeast?
(I am aware that there is more to anti candida diet than just low carb.. aviodance of certain foods which i have been doing... i'm not really new to it)

Depends upon how bad my candida is as to how many carbs I will consume.
When it's bad, I limit to about <50 grams a day??
Some days I had to eliminate almost all carbs .. except green foods. = maybe 20 grams total =
I'm finally better and have been eating more like 80 grams a day? Ballpark figures.

80 grams!?!as a high limit...wow!!
at 150 grams i was only getting 800 calories a day. (cooked vegatables and gluten free whole grains ...occasional small portion of meat...lowfat diet)..
i cant do that ...for one reason it make me loose weight and i am already thin MAYBE 112lbs (my hips are about 34 inches and i am a grown old lady)
not to mention the whole higher carb makes some of my symptoms feel better problem.
i wonder if most people on the low carb diet cut that low?

Hey AW,
I am back on the low carb as we speak. Needed to jump start my system and try losing again.
I was staying under 10 grams a day and had been losing quickly, too quickly actually.
I've recently added milk (for the calcium) and am up to 20- 25 a day and still losing.
I stay away from sugar completely, yes, even ice cream. That should also help yeast, but not as fast as I'd expected.
So for ME I am losing with under 30 grams per day. Not that you will be the same, but maybe that gives you an idea where losing is still happening in others?
I also eat meat, fish, shellfish, eggs, etc, along with the veggies (no bread, pasta, taters). I need the protein and feel too tired without it.

i have alot of digestive issues and foods i cant eat for various reasons. (even the kind of veggies i can eat is limited) all my veggies must be cooked. trying to rotate things (I suspect possible food allergies)so not too much meat. i can eat some canned beans but they are high in carbs so not too much of them either.
i need to eat - easy to digest and lowfat. that cuts out things like nuts, oils and alot of meat etc. i dont eat dairy, added sugars, fruit, simple carbs at all due to yeast.
i eat 4 times a day. veggies 2 sometiomes 3 of those. veggies are hard to digest even cooked so i have to watch. and seriously there are hardly any calories in the green ones unless they have carbs.
my nurse said my bloodwork showed that my protien was actuall too high.nothing to worry about now but something to watch.
Eat some fat and protein, for goodness sake! Eggs, cheese, and nuts are nutrient-rich and will boost your caloric intake. Olive oil is another good one, just a drizzle over your salad can easily add 100 calories to whatever you're eating.
I don't know anything about low-carbing for Lyme but I have struggled with my weight for years and low carb eating always makes me feel TONS better.
I can get down to 20 grams of carbs per day and 2000 calories just by adding reasonable amounts of fat and protein. Chances are, you're smaller than me and don't need the full 2000 calories so I know you can do it!

anonymiss.. Some of us cannot digest fats very well. I'm having trouble myself. I was sick all night Thurs and all day and night Friday because of something I ate on Thursday evening.
If you respond that well to a low carb diet, then you likely have issues with candida/yeast. It goes with Lyme...esp if you've had it awhile.

Nope, no candida issues. I have some measure of insulin resistance which makes me gain tons of weight and feel really blechy when I eat refined carbs.
As for not being able to digest fats, well, the biology of what would cause that escapes me. Is that due to the medications or just poor digestion due to the illness? It seems raw fiber would be an issue, but not fat. the human body is typically super efficient at breaking down fat.

My body has difficulty breaking down the fats and carbs, mostly fats. The liver/gallbladder just simply wasn't producing the enzymes needed to break those down.
I tested via EDS. I do great at breaking down proteins. So naturally I limit the rice and legumes, but they are still important to include in the diet in moderation.

Have you ever tried sprouting beans, seeds and nuts? It makes it MUCH easier to digest.

I am the same as lymetoo. long list of gi problems,no gallbladder, and my nervous system isnt right which further affects the digestive system.
maybe a healthy body is effecient at breaking down fats but not my chronically ill.long list of sysptoms and missing a gallbladder one. (and yes i do take digestive enzymes)
cheese is processed (and if you mean dairy - the milk sugars arent good for yeast so i stay away from dairy completely)cheese is also higher in carbs (as far as i know)(i know even brown rice milk - 1 serving is about 23g) and like i said alot of fat doesnt work for my gi system. (im allergic to eggs )although meat in general is harder to digest especailly if i am eating 4 times a day.
also i dont eat anything with added chemcicals. (i have severe mcs) (the canned beans i eat are lead/bpa free). they are in water and seaweed and organic) i know cans arent the greatest but canned just seems so much easier for me to digest even if mom cooks the dry ones for awhile canned r still much easier.
I'm not sure the difference between sproutinmg and other nuts and seeds. despite taking care to chew enough, if i eat 4 times a day i cant eat any nuts of anykind as far as i know but like i said i dont understand the difference between sprouted. whats the difference. would they sprouted on the package? I can have a tiny bit of some seeds sometimes. (organic plain)
I go from bed to couch. from couch to bathroom to couch. I have to hgold onto couters/furniture and wall to move about the house. so muchpaini cant sit upright. so you wouldnt think my body needs a ton of calories but it seems to need more thanyou would think being complewtely inactive (been stuck on couch for years).and that maybe 112 lbs goes with me being 5'4 or so.
