Have you been treating Lyme? Once I treated Lyme, Bart reared its ugly head. Bart causes major anxiety and mood swings. I have flown into some major rages over nothing. If you haven't adressed Bartonella, it could be time.

Anxiety has been one of my main symptoms..I also have mild depression when my anxiety is high.

Wish I had an answer but also when I started abx my anxiety went through the roof, still does at times so lowered my abx dose.

I can so relate its horrible.

Its neurotoxins interfering. Important to have a way of neutralising them.
Charcoal on short term and reduced glutathione on longer term.
It would be good if you could have seleniumlevels and glutathion levels checked with your doctor. Probably low on glutathione, the master detoxifier and antioxidant.
Avoid all radiation, like cell phones and WIFI.
Any chemical exposure will worsen.

Prayer can help, when you are out of it. Read some of the Gospel. Luke or Mark.
Hold on!
Peace be with you

I hope you are taking magnesium.. it is known for it's calming effects. Lyme disease robs the body of magnesium. I found this out 10 years into my disease.

Oh, kiddo, I know how awful it can be! Before I got my Lyme diagnosis, a psychiatrist labled me as having a "rapid-cycling bipolar disorder." Up, down, up, down, up, down.

And music! Yipes! I had been a classically trained musician, but now I couldn't listen to ANYTHING. The music would go round and round in my head until I thought I'd jump off a cliff just to get it to stop.

Benzodiazepines didn't help--they just drugged me out and made my ataxia worse. But low-dose naltrexone (LDN) did. It didn't make all my anxiety go away, but it really took the edge off.

When neurotoxins are released during Lyme die-off, they cause glial cells (which are central nervous system immune modulating cells) to produce excess glutamates. LDN helps to balance out glutamate production by getting rid of the excess.

LDN also blocks opiate receptors, thereby increasing circulating endorphins (you know, the "runner's high"). This helps reduce both pain and depression.

If you're not familiar with LDN, just google it. There's lots of info on the net.

Good luck, and REACH OUT again if it gets too much for you. We're all here for you.

So...Tricia...how much magnesium are you taking?

Here are two that I use:

Source Naturals Ultra Mag,
with magnesium citrate, taurinate, malate, glycinate and succinate.
http://www.iherb.com/Source-Naturals-Ultra-Mag-120-Tablets/1415?at=0

Mag Calm
http://www.iherb.com/Search?kw=mag+calm

Okay, this is not going to solve everything, but it's a start.
Your liver needs magnesium in order to make glutathione, which it uses to detoxify poisons.

The Lyme bacteria leave behind neurotoxins when they die...poisons that affect our nervous system.

You can eat foods high in magnesium, such as almonds, almond butter, and beans...baked beans, bean soup, bean burritoes.
I add a can of rinsed kidney beans when I make macaroni salad.

Oh Tricia...I am sorry!! I have also been dealing w/ mood swings and irritability lately. I actually stopped the LDN because I felt like that ramped things up and made me on edge. I am not sure if it was that or not but I did stop it last week and will talk to the LLNP next week.

I have been so easily emotional. I watched my friends husbands in a triathalon last week and thank God I had sunglasses on because I actually started to cry watching people I didn't know cross the finish line. I mean I can be sentimental but that took me by surprise.

The other day I convinced myself I had ovarian cancer...started completely freaking out but by the next day got a grip. It comes and goes w/ me too and has only really started in the last month or so (when I stopped abx and started chelation).

Last night I was even reading online about psychiatric conditions related to lyme! I can't believe you are going through this too!!

I do wonder if LDN could play a role!

I had already decided this would be the focus of my next LLNP appt. When I am out of my house I am OK but when I am home my brain races. I sometimes wonder if we are on way too many things w/out really knowing what is going to impact different parts of our nervous system.

I stopped a couple of other supplements because I wondered if they were ramping things up for me as well. This is when I wish I had a medical degree!!

If you want to talk let me know! Thinking of you !!

Tricia, I didn't realize you'd already been on LDN. How long have you been on it?

My experience was that for the first two weeks of being on it myself, I had restless sleep and nightmares. But I stuck with it and those side-effects disappeared. It took about a month before I started having benefits, and that was with upping it REALLY slowly (by only half a milligram per week).

I'm getting older, but not old enough for a nursing home.

A couple of months ago, I suddenly became so fearful of being in a nursing home someday when I'm old, that I panicked.

And I felt that way for days. There was a rational part of me that knew my fear was ridiculous, but could not stop.

That wasn't my only negative worry.

Now it all seems funny, but then it was so real!

Now, I'm just obsessive. I've edited this twice already for picky reasons. Still don't like it.
Not treating for bart but think I might have it.

Those who KNOW they have bart, does this go in cycles?

when that happens to me, I noticed that my heart

is racing for no reason.

I check my heart rate and it is 20 beats for 10 seconds! That is 120 beats per minute, at least!

It is the racing heart that gives me the confusing emotional symptoms.

When women have heart attacks, that is how they feel.

I am suppossed to have a cardiologist watching out for my heart. But I don't.

So, all that to say, maybe you are having a heart attack caused from Lyme, Babesia and Bartonella.

I read a article, that someone here found, about a surgeon, or some type of doctor, who worked in a hospital and also ran marathons!

All of a sudden, he wasn't feeling quite right. He checked to see if he was sick, and even he was ignored! Until one day, his heart completely gave out!

He had to have a heart transplant! And they checked his old heart and it was full of Lyme disease (I am not sure if it was full of co-infections as well).

So please, don't beat yourself up. That is a common symptom of mine too!

Get your heart checked, but if we whine too much about our "feelings", then we will be ignored, or sent to the psych ward!

--------------------
I am not a doctor. I have no clue.

EVERYONE should treat for parasites and do a search on here for parasites/worms. They play a MAJOR role in Lyme disease and are often overlooked.

Dr. K. treats ALL of his patients for parasites FIRST and Lyme and co SECOND. Anxiety is on the symptom list for parasites. Google parasite symptoms.

Marz-Mine does not seem to go in cycles but rather I feel like POO all the time.

Missing-I agree about the heart issues, the funny thing is that mine are back since starting treatment for Bartonella. When I first got sick my symptoms were crazy racing heart (200 BPM!) and I was in and out of the ER monthly. My heart tests were always normal although during my stress test my heart rate was way higher than it should have been for resting. They still said my heart was fine! I've had weird heart issues that also come with anxiety and a hard beating heart.

Tricia386-Mine are the same way...I have rages of anger where I cannot stand anything! I have OCD thoughts and songs playing in my head and that's all I can think about. I cannot handle any stress and get irritated very easily. I don't feel like myself at all, even my personality is different.

When my dog would bark my heart would start to race and I get startled/scared very easily. All of this is the opposite of my personality and I can only attribute it to Bart.

Wow, that's me. It's awful..it makes me really feel like I'm losing it! I've wondered if it's from bartonella... well, good thing we're going to go after that soon. I guess it could be other things too, like babs or parasites, but something tells me it's bart.

Ugh...no matter what it is, I can't wait until it's gone.

I think it is the same for me and I think it is Bart and I think it comes in waves, very definitely, every 5 days

with sore, pulsing soles and palms, and severe sweats, chills, and chest pain (heart area), throbbing hot thighs and calves and lower back, and red streaks on my legs and even on my left breast, double vision

anxiety attacks big time!

racing heart and shortness of breath and high blood pressure, EKG is fine

I am only on minocycline now, ramped up to 100mg bid for two weeks now, since I personally don't like to take too many drugs at once

the mino has helped but it is not 100% gone: I can feel the "wave" of sysmtoms come on and it does not get bad, like it used to, Yeah!!!!, so I think the mino is doing something

the only other stuff I take is: mangosteen juice Ultra from Trace Minerals, Vit D drops from Carlsons, Vit C powder from Bluebonnet, Se and Multivitamin from New Chapter (no magnesium sterate)

the mangosteen juice has stopped my severe eye pain, I think

I also eat a few spoons of kefir and probiotics from Renew Life (50 to 80 Billion per pill) religiously 2 hours after each abx dose

I try to work out (to sweat) every other day

the anxiety has gotten better!!!

there is hope

It is soooo scray when it comes on, I know

try Bart treatments, maybe that will help you

hang in there and best of luck to you!!!

My daughter is experiencing the ocd irrational obsessive thoughts, etc., minus the heart issues.

I'm going to try her on a Bach Flower Remedy called white chestnut. I'll let you know if it works, but perhaps you can buy some too and see if it helps you. Just take 2 to 4 drops under the tongue 3 times per day (make sure to take them a good hour away from all abx, food, drink, mints, chocolates, etc.)

Rescue Remedy should work within 15-20 minutes but will probably stop being effective after a month or so of continuous use.

The white chestnut may take longer to kick in so take for 6 to 8 weeks to really see if there is any improvement.

Rescue Remedy (also by Bach) is very good for acute onset and worked great for dd for the first month or so. It's effectiveness wore off though, so no longer works for her. I think she would need a break from it for a couple of months for it to once again work.

Try Rescue Remedy and/or white chestnut to start--hopefully it will help--

***obviously clear these suggestions with your LLMD first if necessary***

Also try walking to get out the excess energy--helps me at least during the walk.

Sorry you are feeling so badly.

My dd wishes it would stop too, so I know it is very uncomfortable.

Allergies and adrenals go hand in hand also.

LDN put me on edge and made me feel awful. I tried it for 2 weeks and just did not like the way I felt or slept.

IMO Adrenals are a main source of a majority of the symptoms we feel. The key is finding the catalyst.

Allergies(food, mold, etc) irritate the adrenal glands to produce more cortisol. After a while the adrenal glands go into a panic state always producing cortisol when they shouldn't.

Lyme and Co's can take a toll on adrenals as well, obviously.

If truth were to be know, I would bet after research you would find even CD57 scores are influenced by healthy adrenals. The lower the number the worse shape they are.

Try supporting the adrenals and the anxiety will go away. Their are foods and supplements that will help. I would add some links but not sure if they are against forum rules.

Just Google.. adrenal fatigue, adrenal deficiency.

I take Isocort by Bezwecken (sp?). I purchase it from endfatiguedotcom website.

Yes, I have a lot of enxiety and some depression along with my Lyme. I was recently told I probably have Bartonella and some residual babesia.

Insomnia problems as well.

How is everyone handling bartonella?
