Hi folks:

I've read how Milk Thistle down-regulates the CYP3A4 liver pathway and how Rifampin up-regulates it..the net effect is a higher than anticipated build up of Rifampin in the body which can cause liver damage.

Check out this old thread http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi/topic/1/105004?

How many here have taken Milk Thistle with Rifampin?

I wonder if this was the reason my liver counts went sky high when I was on it.

Daughter took milk thistle while on Rifampin.

She had abnormal Liver values once early in treatment. We added in small amount of Milk Thistle and never had another problem.

I am but I take mine at midnight or 1 am. So at least 5-6 hours away from Rifampin. My LLMD said to be sure to take everything at least 2 hours away from Rifampin. So far so good... my liver enzymes and Bilirubin has been fine. I have more lab work tomorrow so I guess we'll know more on Wednesday.
