Yes, the cholestyramine binds up the bile, which has the waste products from the liver.
The last part of the small intestine reabsorbs some of the bile components, so that the liver can reuse them when detoxifying the blood. However, some of the poisons can be reabsorbed also, so taking a binder like cholestyramine or clay or charcoal stops that.

Nonna, I am on the powder. The doc gave me directions to take 2x a day. Says do not take any other medications or vitamins from one half hour before to 90 minutes after each dose. Thank goodness it tastes pretty good. Not bad and not ugly. lol
I am not constipated thanks to this stuff called 3A Magnesia. I take it in the afternoon. This stuff makes me go like no other magnesium. I also drink a lot of water and eat a couple of Brazil nuts just to make sure.

Cholestyramine has never made me feel better and I think it might make me feel worse. But other people swear that they need their "binders." I'm really confused about this. I've never felt an improvement from taking cholestyramine, Welcole, charcoal, or clay. If you aren't eating a meal I don't see how these binders work and if you are eating a meal don't you need your bile to break down the food you are eating? It just doesn't make sense to me. But if this is working for other people I'd love to hear about it. I'm about to retire my big tub of compounded, unsweetened cholestyramine.

Yes I got instructions and read the sheet that came with it.. All 3 were different
So to take meds a half hour before the powder or 90 min after seems the most do-able/ .Maybe wait a bit longer.
I'm only doing a half packet once and usually a whole second time.. Or a whole if I've been knocked out most of a day or two..
What else pulls the "die-off" out.
Besides charcol.Thanks, Nonna

We are using it - my daughter had the HLA test done, which shows she has the 'dreaded' gene type, and does not detox mold and Lyme toxins well.
We had been doing 1x a day, now need to move it 2x a day, yes, hard to fit in.
Also have had to go through the whole mold testing our house.
If we didn't have this mold thing, I would not be using this product.
I just mix a scoop in a little juice, taste is fine.
Yes, I also have to fit in some bowel movement supps, too.

- You said "packet" - some "packets" of this can contain other stuff.
Be sure it does not contain aspartame or other artificial sweetener.
Whatever, be sure to not get constipation. LOTS and LOTS of water all through the day, and even the night. Magnesium also helps to prevent constipation.
I had a horrible time with this, and I tried several times. I just could not take it. Some can, though, and feel better for it. But it takes time.
Start VERY slowly, with a LOW DOSE and gradually increase to optimum dose as per your doctor's instructions. -

doesn't it also reduce cholesterol. I was told that it's not good to have really low numbers. I think it had to do with our brain function...
Could be way off on this, and I don't mean keep really high numbers. Thanks, Nonna

It's also for cholesterol, I'm told we need it for our brains and body to function and going to low is not OK.
