I have gum recession, meaning the gums have warn away a lot in many spots, leaving bare tooth roots and other bones exposed. Also, for many teeth, there is no "cuticle-like things" connecting tooth to gum, allowing bacteria to live in between.
I am considering this surgery, alternative is to regrow gums myself, which I have heard from some that it can be done, at least in theory, but mostly I hear is impossible or near impossible.
I'm wondering, if anyone has done this while having lyme disease. If so, what impact did it have on the lyme -- good, bad, nothing noticeable?
Hear I am considering the surgery for gum recession, I know there is another periodontal surgery, for pockets. They are different, but I'd be curious anyone's results for either one.
A few months ago I had cavities drilled and filled and that really improved my overall health. I think possibly this surgery could be helpful in the same way. Both situations (cavities and gum recession) allow more bacterial growth, which isn't good.
They normally prescribe 7 days of abx, afterward, trying to reduce chance of infection of the area and help it heal better. I really want to avoid that, they typically use cipro which would probably be a disaster GI-wise to do for 7 days. He says no problem, I don't need to take the abx, it's precautionary, we'll use herbs and do our best. Fine, but it does point out, things can go badly, it will expose area to infection, that sort of thing.
So, possible good or bad.
Myself, right now, I'm feeling like I'm close to over the hump into healthy, I'm much better than before. So, it's a surgery, but I've had others, I'm not absolutely horribly weak, I think in general I can handle things.
But, needing cipro or similar abx could be disaster, or maybe healing gums will push me over the top. Who knows.
Anyone with experience with this, or thoughts regardless?

I had bad pockets for a long time. After 2 years and 4 months of antibiotics they vanished, to the astonishment of the dental hygienist. You might want to wait and see what the antibiotics do for you.
At one time, cutting my gums back was recommended by a dentist for the pocket situation. When I asked about the possible side effects, I was told that permanent pain could be a result of the operation. Perhaps they have improved the techniques.

- Also research Sea Buckthorn Oil. The best price I've seen is at Mountain Rose Herbs. It's helping me with this problem but I still have a long way to go.
There is no way I could physically tolerate the surgery (just being out is too much stimili) nor afford it.
I do know of two people for whom this worked, though. Do what you need to save your teeth. But, if caused by whatever infection, that would need to be completely addressed.

I got veneers to hide the problem and it worked well, but I didn't have a lot of root showing with my recession and I needed chips on both my front teeth fixed, too. I had spaces between teeth where gums were supposed to be, but my gums were much lower on the root part of my teeth (if that makes sense).
