I am supposed to start IV Rocephan soon. I was told that some well known LLMDs do not use it and I wonder why. Instead I hear that they use IV Merrem or IV Clindamycin.
I read about some of your experiences with rashes. When I was hospitalized on daily IV Vancomycin and Naphcillin I got a rash all over my back and stomach. At that time no one realized I had lyme disease...I was in for sepsis. They thought it was an allergic reaction and stopped the Naphcillin. Now I realize that it was part of the terrible herxing I was going through.
I never was tested for lyme and my "miraculous" recovery from years of bedridden misery was a surprise to everyone as I walked without wheelchair for the first time in years.
Now, sick as hell again and facing IV antibiotics again I wonder which one is best? My recent breathing problems were eased when I stopped the Flagyl/Ketek I have been on for 4 months. I do not relish more of that. My cardiologist is doing a complete workup because of it....he has no understanding of lyme.
I, too, thought my breathing was allergy inspired. But stopping the antibiotics disproved that theory. I think the rash responses are similar.
Who has had lasting positive effects with IV Rocephan? Negative? Other IV's?

My LLMD's PA told me they don't use Rocephin because it's like "hitting an elephant with a feather". I've been on both IV Merrem and Clindamycin recently. Have a rash all over my neck that I believe is die-off. The rash doesn't hurt. I've had Rocephin many times and it never "got in there" deeply enough, besides the fact that it causes the spirochetes to quickly go into cyst form. A cyst buster like flagyl must always be used in conjunction. For me, personally, Rocephin has done nothing but give temporary relief before I relapse again.
Good luck, and best wishes - Lymelady
