This is actually for a friend of mine - a medical question, but not lyme related - its regarding allergic reactions to meds.

She reacted badly to poison ivy, got an infection and was prescribed predisone, clindamycin and benadryl. The poison ivy seems to have resolved, but she is now covered head to toe in hives, and this is a day after stopping all of the meds.

The last benadryl she took seemed to make it worse.

Have any of you experienced an allergic reaction like this? Is there a way to flush it out of her system quicker? They actually continued to spread overnight despite not taking anything.

I feel so bad for her - what can I do to help??

I feel for your friend. I am plagued by chronic hives (although I assume mine are lyme related) recently, I had hives from waste down, it was by far the worst I had ever had. I believe it was caused by a cortisone shot. out of desperation, after some google research, I went to whole foods and got some homeopathic treatments. first urtica, and then apis. what I read was to try urtica first if no relief in an hour try apis. I then followed the instructions and took the urtica 3 times a day. til the rash went away. to my utter surprise the rash disappeared in two days. I am usually plagued for weeks to months. I also took antihistimine.

they can do no harm, may be worth a try.

We give our daugher Zyrtec, actually the Wallgreen generic. to control itching and hives.

She still gets the hives trigered by exercise, go figure.

Wendy,

Sorry your friend is having a reaction like that. The only thing I can think of is Vitamin C, which is a natural antihistamine. It boosts the immune system and can help counteract the hives.

Parasites/worms can be considered a co-infection of lyme and often overlooked even by LLMDs.

HIVES are on the symptom list for parasites and is something you should consider. Check the symptom list at Humaworm and google parasite symptoms.
