Probably will begin tomorrow or Mon. Am kinda freaked out by posts I've read here of ppl who've taken it and herx'd badly. I already have a moderate problem w/nausea from Mino., taking Phenergan for that already and it's not sufficient.

She has me starting at 3 bid, which I understand is the max dose. Haven't been tested for Babs., but have severe pain in upper back/neck (yrs), mild fevers, air hunger, sleep issues, imbalance, fatigue, tremors. No sweats though, I don't sweat EVER.

Would like to know of ppl's experiences. How best to start, what to expect.

My doc gave me mepron, zyth and amox when I started. I felt so much better within 4-6 weeks. But then I crashed. Mepron seems to have a higher failure rate that other meds.

I guess the herx depends on the combo you are on. What else did she put you on?

Fyi, I take one malarone twice a day. I herx (babs) every fri, sat, and sun. I am also on herbs, so my herxes are milder.

Within a few days of starting the malerone, I got a 103 fever, vomiting and diarrhea for one night - the day after, all my really bad joint pain was GONE, and I felt a lot better after that. Not cured by any means, but SO much better! I hope it works well for you!

I just started on malarone today. Three days after finishing Coartem.

This is my second protocol for babs after relapsing on Mepron.

I am taking two twice a day - waiting to see if the bomb drops. Also on Clindamycin, added ART today and add in Zythro tomorrow. We'll see if this protocol changes anything...Would love to hear how you do with it.

OMG! I REALLY don't get how this forum works! I kept looking at my posts to see if there had been any answers to this one, it read (0). I searched Malarone again and this happened to come up so I looked and behold- all of your responses!

Sorry I didn't respond, had NO clue you'd been there:^)

I'm gonna start in the a.m., now that I know you're out there I'll try to let ya know how it goes. Been looking at the sxs lists for Babs and I'm less and less sure about it. One of the ppl here said they thought my air hunger meant a Babs herx when I started Doxy and Mino on 6-6.

Dropped the Doxy cuz of nausea, now on Mino and mega Zith. Just quit Levaquin yesterday too cuz of tendon.

Not sure how to take the Mal w/a fatty meal, when I hafta take Mino. w/Phenergan and rice cake for nausea 12 hrs. apart. Any suggestions? I'm used to taking 12 hr. meds at 9a.m. and 9p.m.

Started Malarone at 8:30 this am (Pacific). 6.5 hrs now and I'm just fatigued to the point of feeling sedated. I checked side effects and fatigue is way down on the list. Could this be a confirmation of Babesia?

I'm on my second go round of Malarone. The first few days it makes me really fatigued but then it goes away. Hope it does the same for you!

Well I am on day 3 of two in the AM and two in the PM.

Can't tell if I am still herxing from the Coartem I took last week but this is what I have noticed so far.

It makes me quite dizzy, head pressure, ears feel funky about an hour after taking it - kinda like that numb full feeling in ears, increased anxiety.

I got a similar feeling on Mepron....I am also taking ART and Zyth. with it.

Wanted to add that I am also noticing that my face and scalp/skull feels kinda numb.

I had that with Mepron and it was one of the most bothersome symptoms. Anyone else getting that with Malarone?

Was not nauseated until I took it today (3bid), now I am, and a bit dizzy. Still not sure if it's the med or Babs, cuz I really don't know if I have Babs!

Felt better yesterday than I have since I began Lyme tx 6-6 (ON Mal.), more energy, less pain- go figure? Was super fatigued most of day, not by evening, and not after my 2nd dose at bedx when it would have been nice to be fatigued:^)

OK. Either this was a bad Lyme flare, or Babs., I have a laundry list of sxs after taking the Mal. today. If anyone wants specifics I'll supply them 18 of them! Hoping this is Babs. and that the Mal is gonna slay those buggers!

Caren NV: Can you share your 18???

I have to take a break cuz I just found out my liver enzymes are high. I am now wondering if my "herx" was my liver/body being too toxic...
