Anyone dealing with Lyme disease should watch this video!!!!!!!!!! Inflammation is the biggest problem with Lyme disease, cutting out GMOs and gluten can definitely help your body heal. I see a lot of people on forum saying they don't feel anything when they switch to a gluten-free diet. Just because you don't feel a difference doesn't mean it's not helping, proof is in the pudding, watch the video.
About midway through the film I saw Dr. Lee Cowden. So if he has something to say, I would say it's pretty important video.

Yeah, I posted it yesterday directly from Jeffrey Smith's website, under the movie title: "Genetic Roulette."
It's available online only until Friday, 22nd!
MUST SEE movie for anyone dealing with "inflammatory" issues. GMOs TRIGGER inflammation Big Time, according to this film!
I have been following this issue for several years and learned a few new things from this film. F'rinstance, the process causes not just the genetic change intended, but a CASCADE of genetic aberrations, all along the plant's genetic code! Moreover, "Round Up" the companion herbicide, carries its own set of health dangers.
Ironically, wheat and rice are NOT GMO, corn and soy almost invariably ARE GMO! (And even more disgusting, soy is the basis for most baby formulas!) Allergists are starting to advise their patients to "first" get rid of the GMOs in their diet, and the results are dramatic.

You are correct, Lymetoo.
Which is a big reason why food manufacturers are sinking million$ into fighting California's Proposition 37, requiring that GMO foods be labeled!
It's not the "relabeling costs" they're really worried about, they just don't want us to know what's in their food products. (Like cereals, salad dressings, & anything with corn syrup!) They know a lot of us will reject them!

The wheat we eat today is not the same wheat our grandmothers used for baking. In the 1970s, in anticipation of a global population explosion and world hunger issues, a well-meaning University of Minnesota-trained geneticist developed a hybridized strain of high-yielding dwarf wheat. By 1985, all wheat products were made from the altered dwarf strain, which now comprises 99 percent of all wheat grown worldwide.
Then in the early 1900s, it was discovered that the gluten proteins in grain had changed significantly from their pre-hybridized counterparts. In one study, 14 new gluten proteins were identified. Some estimates suggest that the hybridization and genetic engineering of grain as role resulted in up to a 500 fold increase in the plants gluten production today.
All this information can be very overwhelming for a person. I know a good percentage of people that change their diet won't last, just like new people weightlifting at the gym, it's very hard! I mean what can we eat? Well it's not easy, I'm on the gluten-free dairy free low GMO diet.
Some of what my diet entails and may help others:
I've replace gluten cereal I used to eat with gluten-free oats and bananas in the morning with GMO free Almond Breeze Almondmilk.
I eat Rudy's gluten-free bread when I eat bread.
Just like I said above I have replaced dairy with GMO free Almond Breeze Almondmilk.
Stay away from all processed snacks loaded with sugar, replaced them with not such as peanuts and pistachios.
Eat eat a lot of vegetables and some fruits.
I try to eat organic meat, but that can be pricey, I still eat a lot of meat that isn't organic. And if you think, the meat we are fed from the supermarket, most those animal's are fed GMO grain.
I have always tried to be pretty healthy being a weightlifter and way before I got Lyme disease. But I must say this change has even been really hard for me. It was well worth it though, because now I'm pretty much adjusted and fine with my new diet.

Monsanto TRIED to get a license to market GMO Wheat and GMO Rice - there was such a public outcry it was NEVER GRANTED!
The writer at this "community" newspaper you have cited, needs to check facts better, or be more fastidious in sentence construction. The only GMO "grain" in the marketplace is CORN ... and last I knew, corn doesn't contain gluten, it's just high glycemic.
I'm glad to hear your diet is working for you. If I were to go dairy free, I'd choose almond milk over soy too!

Alfalfa is the latest GMO coming into the market - which is scary because they feed it to dairy cattle. The dairy I do buy is warranted to be rbGh free.
I know what you mean about grass-fed beef. I love it, but can only afford it when my local runs a special on the Australian grass-fed, about every five or six weeks.
Try to find time to watch the movie before it gets pulled after tomorrow(22nd). I have read both of Jeffrey Smith's books on this subject, but even I was surprised at a couple of things they covered in the film.

By "human research," you are right saying that wheat isn't a GMO. Truthfully though???
Yes there is a difference between hybridize and GMO, but both have been altered and I believe they are unsafe. I know they state wheat isn't, but I think otherwise.
When a person develops celiac disease, their immune system thinks that the gluten protein is a foreign invader. Celiac disease has risen big time in the past 30 years. So to me I don't need any proof to tell me they haven't genetically altered gluten/wheat.
Just because your government tells you they haven't genetically altered gluten, do you believe them? Especially when the VP of Monsanto is on the FDA now. I think nowadays it's a matter of "how much" it's been genetically altered. For instance wheat has already been tampered with, Monsanto just wants to go to the GMO extreme to patent it and reap the profits from being a GMO.
It is just like the Lyme disease situation, the government tells us we don't have a current infection. But yet are inflammation rages on and soon as we go off antibiotics our symptoms come raging back.
Dr. Ella Cuna maybe shouldn't of said "genetic engineering of grain" in the article. But I think she was just trying to get her point across and I agree with her saying that gluten is dangerous, even if you don't have celiac disease!

I know isn't that messed up.
At first when I heard this is, like yeah maybe, more I hear about it from more people and articles it's definitely true.

Sorry, but hybridizing is something that COULD OCCUR in Nature! GMO is completely man-made - and causes a cascade of hundreds of genetic aberrations all throughout the plant! It doesn't just change ONE Gene!
Your sensitivity to gluten is real - but it has little in common with what GMOs do to animals, and presumably, other mammals. And oh yeah, I agree our gov't lies to us about way too many things, but if you saw the film, the "third party" scientists who do GENETIC TESTING on these plants, would know if our wheat supply WAS GMO... no matter what the law commands.
Have you watched the film yet?

The oldest form of cultivated wheat is einkorn. It's one of the whole grains that I eat for breakfast and I really like it. It tastes like corn. Not the cheapest grain. I've had no bad reaction to this wheat but I am somewhat sensitive to regular wheat.
At night I soak a grain in water to rid it of phytic acid and the next morning I rinse it and eat with a nut milk and sunflower or pumpkins seeds that I have also soaked and rinsed for the same reason.
To cook any of the grains, I bring the water to a boil, turn it off and let it sit on the burner for awhile. That way I don't have to worry about burning the grains. I repeat this two more times and the grains are cooked perfectly. This also works for beans, although you should soak beans in a little vinegar to remove the gas element.

This issue is very important but there are other very important issues as well... I don't think that by eliminating GMOs that all people will be cured of their illnesses. I think the film lfocused on this a bit too much. GMOs are not the only cause of the types of illness that many people suffer these days.
There were a few other ponts in this film that I didn't like. Overall - I agree that we do not need GMOs. I do not think that this labeling law & grassroots protest will overthrow or bankrupt Monsanto or whomever is behind all of this mess.
It's good for people to be aware but it's just one aspect of why many of us are ill & some of the nefarious stuff that is going on in the world.
BTW - many foods have had canola oil in them for many years from Canada & it's always been a GMO. Most of us have been eating the stuff even before this was a known political issue.

Where do you buy your einkorn? I saw something online for buying 15 pounds, but I'd like to start quite a bit smaller and try some.

Dear Friends,
I've been working on getting the Label GMOs ballot issue passed in California. If you eat, it has something to do with you. You can get more info at http://www.labelgmos.org
There's a downloadable shopping guide to help avoid GMO-containing foods. I believe it's issued by the Institute for Responsible Technology, which made the documentary. The basics of it is to avoid products with soy, corn and corn derivatives, sugar (unless labeled cane sugar, as all sugar beets are GMO), canola oil. There's one other I don't remember at this time. Lymebrain or what?? LOL!
Corn is particularly problematic, as the gene that creates the stomach-lining destroying toxin is in every cell. The rest of these are genetically modified to resist toxic pesticide, RoundUp.
These crops have the gene from a completely different organism injected into them. Hybridization, which is the inter-breeding of plants to gain desired traits, is a different process entirely. It may have the result that the plant is easier to grow, the food easier to store, etc., but isn't as nutritious as its parents. This seems to be the case with wheat. But, that's a whole 'nother issue.
Please, get this link to people on your email lists. It's a very short video about the situation with GMOs. We need help from every potential person to get this passed in California. It will have an effect on the food that is available to YOU.

I guess the thing I didn't like about this film was that it was focused on the white, American, middle class. This is a global issue. If Monsanto has a few setbacks here in the US - they will just take the whole thing to Africa... They are already doing this.
If they ruin the soil here - we will have to buy food grown in Africa. It may not be today or tomorrow but this is the plan from what I can tell.

Don't you think these companies like Monsanto already factored in the backlash? The protests are about 40 years too late. It's systemic. It effects law,, medicine, government, universities, farming, media, public opinion, food suppliers... How could it have been going on for so long & virtually no one noticed?
It's a bit late to put the genie back in the bottle now. How many have already suffered due to this? It's an atrocity but it's already done.
It's important to know about it but we are so far behind in fixing it. We need to focus on the future instead of trying to fix what has already been implimented.

Sparkle - Kindly get a grip.
Did you even watch the film to the end? Where they talked about the group in Africa that eats corn 3 times a day??
What is with the racism?
We have not been eating GMOs "probably since the 1970s" ... it was a NEW technology in the 80s, and widely distributed in American foods by the early 90s. It was mid-late 90s when Armd Putzai did his GMO potato experiment and revealed his findings to the British Press - the story flashed across Europe and people were up in arms! When the British Prime Minister made a phone call to Putzai's boss, 2 days later he was fired, and made to sign a "gag order" lasting 10 years, before they would give him severence. (If you watched the film, you learned he had worked there 30 years!)
I read "Seeds of Deception" when it was first published. I was appalled! I OWN a copy of "Genetic Roulette" and am a member of the Institute for Responsible Technology. I volunteered for the Right2Know march. Please don't keep muddying up the discussion with half baked guesses.
On the other hand, I appreciated that text about Canola, although I'd like to know more about the source - Waymarks - I've never heard of them.
But I think they are overblowing the danger of Canola - just because it's a polyunsaturate, like so many other oils, which has it's own drawbacks. However it only became a GMO just a few years ago (technically), when they started raising "Round Up Ready" Canola. Before that, Rapeseed was blasted with xrays, and seeds were "selected" for their lessened ability to produce uricic acid.
Moreover, I cannot take the defeatist attitude that you chronically expound, to whit: "our world is so polluted, what's the use, we're all going to die." Smith says that if just FIVE PERCENT of us stopped buying GMO products, this could be enough to signal the end of GMOs in our marketplace - just as the European Union BANNED IT over 15 years ago!

Good for you! Thanks from all the rest of us, who want to eat wholesome, natural, food, for trying to get Prop 37 passed in California!
You folks were the first to declare that silver dental fillings were carcinogenic, and now, a few years later, all of the dentists in this country have been forced to stop using mercury amalgams by law!
Please note that the Shopping Guide is a drop down at the top of the page, which is divided into categories. These pages don't tell you whose food is dirty, but rather, whose food is CLEAN.
Anything short of Organic is suspect!
Including, as Cass said, corn, soy, sugar (unless labeled 'cane'), and COTTONSEED. (Remember the Indian farmers committing suicide?)
Another is ASPARTAME ... which is made from GMO - get this - e-coli bacteria, that's been spun in a centrifuge to separate their S**T from their bodies! Believe it or not, their (er, "feces") is Sweet ... and VOILA! The Miracle zero calorie sweetener that gives us ..."Diet Coke!"
This process was revealed a few years ago when someone stumbled upon the "recipe" while scanning through the U.S. PATENTS!

In the US, GM wheat was not approved when wheat farmers banned together because they were concerned that contamination would seriously hurt exports. So the reason was economic, not safety.
What are other sources of GMOs?
food additives, enzymes, flavorings, and processing agents, including the sweetener aspartame (NutraSweet) and rennet used to make hard cheeses;
(Note: Buy Kosher cheese. Rennet is made from cow's stomach lining, Kosher cheeses do not contain animal based starters. Look for the U symbol on the container.)

I guess an alternative opinion is not allowed here. I didn't say anything about "racism" - I just noted that the film was presenting the white, American middle class view. That's all fine and good if you are from that point of view... Not everyone is. I'm just making a note of that. I studied semiotics at school & that's what I look for in media.
Like I said - all of this is good but I think we need to go deeper. If we are always trying to fight for our rights to be healthy & survive as an afterthought; we will not beat the system that wants everyone ill & broke.
There are people who obviously think differently or else we wouldn't be debating about GMOs. They have a plan & they are making it into a reality. They want to genetically modify the whole planet. Take a look at what they have planned for trees.
They are planning ahead. If they weren't, this issue wouldn't be as systemic as it is. I did watch the entire film.
You are correct in that the canola wasn't grown as a modified crop until the mid 90's - so, that's almost 20 years... Other crops such as tobacco have been grown in other countries since the early 90's.
Pollen blows everywhere & I don't think there's a place on the planet that has not been effected by genetically modifiied pollen at this point. Like I said - all of this effcrt to make changes is good. I just don't think it goes far enough. I think I am alowed to criticize a film. If that's not alowed here - let me know.
I remember how everyone was up in arms about the nuclear issue back in the 1980's. I attended the "No Nukes" concert in NYC... Everyone was hopeful there would be a change. We still had Fukishima in 2011. It's still leaking.
These people who control these things will not give up so easily. That's all I have to say.

Although I am blessed to not have any food allergies (or Lyme), I am not surprised to see you say this. Restaurants can be the worst!
They are always looking to increase their "bottom line" - and pre-made foodstuffs from restaurant suppliers are often the "norm" - sometimes the owner of a place can't even tell you what's in the food!
Remember back a year or so ago, when Taco Bell got chastised by the USDA for advertising that they sold "beef" tacos? And the gov't tested their menu and found there was less than 50% beef in the taco mix?
As the ad says: "Chow, Chow, Chow!"

Dear Sparkle,
Thanks for your comments.
You are completely right about there being a major agenda behind this scene. Send me a PM and I will send you links to data that gets to what the agenda is and the "grand" plan.
As far as the movie being racist, it seems to me that it was intended for an American audience. In India GMOs are required to be labeled, and there's currently a movement there to ban them altogether. Many other non-white populations have GMOs labeled. There are other fights on the GMO front in Latin America and elsewhere. Now, GMOs are required to be labeled in 50 or more countries.
The key fight, right now, is HERE in the U.S.--in California.
