Hello all, its been a while since I've been on. The good news is that its mostly because I've been feeling enough better that I'm finally able to do a lot of the hobbies I was missing out on the past year and a half - I'm making up for lost time! [Smile]

But at the moment, both my husband and I are dealing with nerve issues - in the form of restless leg syndrome and some creepy-crawly neuropathy in the arm. We're both in treatment for Lyme, plus off and on for Bartonella and Babesia. I don't remember if this is associated with a specific TBD.

So until we can knock these bugs down some more, who else has had to deal with this, and do you have any non-prescription treatments that you find effective? Some good night's sleep would be very nice...

Thanks in advance!

I've found taking homeopathic Causticum 30C (2 pellets under the tongue) at onset of restless legs sensations relieves them quite nicely.

My husband has also used the Causticum for restless legs with good results.

In addition to the excellent homeopathic suggestion by Razzle,

Magnesium & Taurine, together. Divided doses throughout the day, not all at one time.

Take away from Rx by a couple hours both directions of the clock (and away from homeopathics by at least 20 minutes).

Up to 2,000 mg a day but typically between 600 mg - 1,000 mg total dose. Work up to bowel tolerance and back down dose when loose stools tell you to do so (too much magnesium can result in loose bowels).

Also, be sure to avoid all food additives as most are excitotoxins.

Excitotoxins; MSG; Aspartame; & "Natural" Flavors . . .

How related to TBD? All TBD are very toxic to our cells, raising NMDA "signals" and it's the total toxic load that irritates nerve signals (and can cause nerve damage, too).

MAGESIUM & TAURINE are the two best things to help lower the NMDA and support the calming GABA transmitters in our nervous system.

Support for the liver also helps to lessen NMDA and support GABA can help to reduce that overactive nerve reaction to toxicity. Detail here:

LIVER & KIDNEY SUPPORT & and several HERXHEIMER support links, too.

Much of this is from CarolinPA's posting history, combined with some of my own notes:
---------------------------

There are some good brand of liquid magnesium. Cardiovascular Research (brown glass bottle) is one.

If you buy liquid (anything) it's best in GLASS rather than plastic.

Magnesium citrate (as in NaturalCalm power you put in water) is best 3 x a day.

Some like magnesium glycinate better. Citrate and Glycinate have slightly different effects so if one causes too loose bowels, switch to the other form.

Never take the full day's dose of magnesium at one time as that can stress the kidneys. It should always be taken 2 - 3 times a day and,

yes, on a daily basis. Magnesium helps the liver, helps nerve fibers . . . and so much more. It's one of the best support supplements for lyme treatment.

You would take it to bowel tolerance, some take about 200 mg 3 x a day -- but many do better with up to 1,000 mg - or even 2,000 mg a day (especially those with neurological issues).

Take up to the point of loose bowels and then back down a bit.

Calcium and other minerals need to be in balance, too. Hopefully, your LLMD has advice on brands.

UPLEDGER INSTITUTE - find someone trained in this effective safe, gentle method of cranial-sacral therapy.

Do NOT ever have your neck or spine suddently twisted, however, as many can do with body work. Those with lyme should never have suddent twists of neck or spine.

Yeah, I use 30C.

If the first dose doesn't seem to start working within 10 minutes or so, I take a second dose.

I've never had to take more than 2 doses to get the restless legs symptoms to stop.
