I have used VSL#3 DS for several years and it has helped tremendously. Now my insurance company has decided not to cover it despite a letter of medical necessity and records sent by my doctor.

It infuriates me that these non-medical people can decide to deny medications that doctors prescribe. It is very expensive, so I cannot afford to get it. If I end up with systemic yeast from not having it, it will cost them a lot more than getting the prescription!

I am sure the majority of people here have had this happen more than once. It is insane!

&%$#!!

I remember when all this nonsense started about 20 yrs ago. I had a really bad feeling about it .. that insurance companies were suddenly given power over DOCTORS.

It wasn't always this way!! And now, it's going to get even worse. More to come.

%&$#!!!!!

My new one won't cover Deplin and I have the MTHFR gene anomaly. Cash price is too much for now.

Can't find an over the counter replacement that is high enough in dosage.

Does VSL prevent yeast?

I thought you could get VSL#3 in pill form from Costco w/out a script? I know it's only half the dose, but it seemed like a reasonable price for a high quality OTC probiotic

You can. For many, it is/was cheaper thru insurance and the CFU count is HUGE by prescription because you could take several packets a day.

Lymetoo, I agree that it will only get worse. I am really concerned about being off of the VSL.

Hoops123, I will check with Costco--thanks. Do you have to be a member to get something from the pharmacy?

You don't need to be a member to use Costco pharmacy-
I used to buy VSL capsules there-

Best price, they keep it refrigerated and handle it correctly.
May want to call ahead and make sure in stock,

if it's not, just takes a few days and they will call/hold for you.

VSL worked great for me. I tried probiotic pills & it did not work for me.

At one point I tried Kefir & I had my VSL on hold in case I had issues. With time I discovered that I do not need VSL, only Kefir.

One quart costs about $3.50 and I take 1-2 shots per night & sometimes I forget to take a shot. In the beginning you will want to drink more to sway the flora more toward what is in the Kefir, thereafter 1-2 shots should suffice.

You can always test the way I did slowly by weening off VSL & feeling your need of Kefir consumption.

Buying it online usually incurs cold shipping costs, unfortunately.
