My ankles (really the backs of my ankles and heels) have been swollen. Also the arch is swollen too.
Now the backs of my knees are swollen. Not the front but the back.
Why and what can I do?
I'm on Mepron, Zithro, crypto plus and artemisia.
Thanks. This is concerning me.

Hi Messa,
This happens to me, especially the tendons in the back of my feet and my toes.
Someone mentioned pain and problems in feet and calves may be Bart. Have you been dx'd for Bart?
If the swelling is bad-you should see a doctor to rule out anything serious, ie: circulation
I make sure to have my epsom soak every night-that helps, and also I rub oil on my feet and calves every night (apricot oil with thieve's oil in it) and rub from my feet, upwards to my hips. This helps with the swelling a lot.
I associate my swelling with accumulation of lymph. So I try to do things that help move the lymph along-drink lemon water, epsom salt detox baths, and massage from my feet upwards in the direction of my heart.
When the joints swell, I raise my feet above my heart (lay down with a pillow under my feet and knees), and put ice wrapped in a towel on my toe and feet bones.
Hope these suggestions help you Posts: 4358 | From British Columbia, Canada | Registered: Jun 2013

Thanks Greta, I've tried countless times taking Epsom salt baths. It makes all of my inflammation so much worse. The swelling gets bigger.
Ill try the oils. Thanks so much for the suggestions.
Do you notice immediate swelling relief after a bath?

Hi Messa, Yes, I notice a difference in the Epsom baths about 15 minutes in. But I load the Epsom salts in it-about 3 cups per bath.
Maybe soaking your feet in Epsom salts would be easier on your body. Less surface area to absorb the magnesium.
Do you drink enough water? I always assume everyone on this forum does, as we have to wash all the pills and herbs down. Haha.
Also, there is a product called Johnson Foot Soak. It comes in an orange and white box and has other things in it.
If you find Epsoms to be aggravating for you, maybe a packet of Johnsons Foot Soak will be better. It is milder-I've used it before, it stinks, but it works
Don't forget ice packs/bag of frozen peas and raising your legs to help the swelling.

Messa-something else to consider-have you taken cipro or levafloxane (sp.?) or any other antibiotics from that family?
Sometimes they can cause tenson issues.
Back of the ankle and back of the knees have big tendons.
If you have taken abx from that antiobiotic family, it is best to see a doc to rule out the tendon complication.
Also, lyme LOVES tendons and ligaments

You can experience swollen ankles or other joint inflammation with lyme and co's. You should tell your doctor as soon as possible.
Your also on a lot of meds, could be a combo of both.

Yes I've done just soaking the feet and my feet swelled up. Thanks. I can't get better. Nothing helps.

Something to consider - getting a lymph drainage massage - it's really helped me around these joints.
I also use my 660nm red light tool - I wave it around the area and that reduces the discomfort level.
I've been using turmeric powder recently to take down symptoms. I get it in bulk and put it in capsules.
