This article is saying that about 6% of the ticks in the Hudson Valley are believed to carry this deadly virus.

The title of this post is a bit misleading. Ticks here do carry a virus that can cause encephalitis, and this article is discussing Powassan virus.

But there is another disease, not in the U.S. yet, called Tickborne Encephalitis (TBE) and that is different. In Europe they have a vaccine for it.
